Lid a bit of a challenge
This little 2qt 'contura' is just darling, a nice manageable size for a smaller person/ single person- and it does work.I do have serious doubts that it is stainless steel through and through, I believe that the inside is aluminum, which performs better as a pressure cooker body material, anyway. I am just going to 'let go' of my fears of getting aluminum in my food from the pressure cooker, and I will simply refrain from putting strongly acidic foods in it (tomatoes/citrus, etc) I will also immersion blend in another container, to prevent getting fine shavings of aluminum in the food. The only other issue is getting the lid on (in). It has been a challenge- but since I received my cooker 4 days ago, I've used it 3 times (including the initial straight water with lemon juice/vinegar run, so I can put the lid on/in, it's just tricky. It seems easier if you basically let it fall in/on.I actually like the whistle/hiss. Makes cooking your beans a little more of an adventure. Also, if you do not fill more than 1/2 way the contura doesn't seem to splatter food out with the whistling. And--it whistles to urge you to turn down the flame. I can cook pinto beans on the absolutely lowest gas setting my range is capable of. If you want to 'be green' you can't beat that.So far I have made rice pudding- it was OK, but I think rice pudding would cook better at lower temps, so I will try that stove-top next time. The NM pinto beans with a 1/2 an onion (you don't have to chop the onion up- it falls apart naturally during the 60-or so minute cooking time)and a little vegetable oil turned out tender and tasty. Next I will make a nice dal/soup- just throw everything in, curry powder/onions/jalapenos/peeled knob of ginger/lentils/water/salt/veg oil, stir and cook ~20-30", then at the end throw in a whole rough chopped bunch of cilantro and immersion blend it. You cannot beat a nice soup like that on a cold day in NM. Addenfum 2022,,,,This thing is great! I highly recommend!! Low tech, well designed, never fails. I can cook my beans if the electricity goes out (have a gas range). However, my dog still hates the whistle, :)

Simple, reliable, inexpensive. Works perfectly.
I love the small size, for use in my motorhome. Very reliable and simple operation. Excellent value! The periodic steam blasts are a bit startling, but also amusing for guests watching me cook. I wish the aluminum was anodized so it didn't stain so easily inside, but they explain a simple procedure with lime juice to clean that works well.

Great Pressure cooker for electric & gas cooking
Great Product. Perfect size to cook food for 2 people. Very energy efficient. The only thing I am expecting the makers of the cooker is to make it induction compatible. But otherwise, its a great pressure cooker, cooks food in 2-5 minutes. Retains the nutrition inside. Pressure cooker pressure indicator works good. But when you cook I would suggest people to check cooking time for individual recepie. It works best when you use this cooker on low to medium heat.

Best in its category.
I wanted a pressure cooker for our small family of 3. It is very handy. I cook all my dals, curries and beans in it and it gets done in a jiffy. I wanted to stop buying canned beans that contain a whole lot of sodium. Now I can buy legumes that are free of preservatives and cook them in my cooker. I also make soup and stews in it that take minimum time and are tastier and more wholesome than when I cooked them in a pan. The only drawback is that it is not stain proof, the food coloring like turmeric leaves a stain that does not wash off. Otherwise an excellent and reliable product!!!

Great and prompt service but overpriced
I have used this cooker for years and have never had problems with it. After being used for 6 years my prior one's valve broke and so I had to replace it. The cooker is in excellent condition though I must say that the product is overpriced. After buying from amazon as I am a loyal amazon prime member did I realize that this product is actually available for 2/3rd the price in the market

Simple, easy-to-use, hassle-free cooker.
I have owned a Hawkins 3.5 liter Aluminium cooker that my mom gave me in India before i was going to go to grad school in 2003. Fast forward 9 years to 2012 and I still have that one and it works like a dream. So when I decided to get another cooker to use while my old one was in the dishwasher, I bought the Hawkins Contura 3.5 Liters Aluminum Pressure Cooker. Actually, i initially picked up the Hawkins Futura 5 liter instead and realized that it doesnt whistle while cooking food - something that would take a lot of getting used to, since I gauge the time left to cook food by counting the whistles on medium flame. So I returned the Futura even before I opened the box and got the Hawkins Contura 3.5 Liters Aluminum Pressure Cooker instead. This model has a wider shape that is perfect for building steam quickly and also allows for better visibility and stirr-ability of the food inside. It's easy to get a one-pot meal started with this cooker, something I have grown up with and I am familiar to. The cover is easy to place and the cooker allows very consistent cooking. I always get great results. because this is aluminim, it is light and easy to clean (aluminium is somewhat non-stick).Love the purchase !!! thanks amazon for stocking Hawkins !

Nice
It is a nice product. Easy to use n clean. I dont know y my dish gives a burnin smell though if kept a lil longer. I have to use some kitchen king/ meat masala tp get rid of that weird smell. But otherwise it is a nice product till u exactly know when to turn off the gas.

Lives on my stove.
Bought this pressure cooker because I wasn't sure I would use one and found I use it frequently. Very fast, easy to use and easy to clean. I can't find anything that tells me what it's made of and I suspect it's aluminum so I will likely buy a stainless steel one.

Hawkins pressure cookers are the best as the quality has been consistent over the years
Hawkins pressure cookers are the best as the quality has been consistent over the years. Although I've tried some of the other brands, I prefer the Hawkins range . Hawkins contura is a lot like the classic in terms of build but not in shape. The packaging was good and it comes in its own carton along with a recipe book. One can count on its reliability and performance. A great product !
