The newest member of Spyderco's Mantra series of flipper folders, the Mantra 3 takes the proven style and functionality of the original design and expresses it in a practical, everyday carry format. Its full-flat ground, leaf-shaped blade is precision machined from CPM S30V stainless steel and opens equally well with either its fully accessible Trademark Round Hole or its index finger flipper. Special ball-bearing washers between the blade and the handle's nested stainless steel liners guarantee a silky smooth action, while carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales offer a positive grip and a home for the knife's high-strength Compression Lock mechanism. They also house its deep-pocket wire clip, for a choice of left or right-side, tip-up carry.

Dangereux
Dangereux !

I wanted to love it so much
I almost cried when spyderconfinally made a knife with everything I love from several different models.Flipper✔ Compression lock✔ G10 with carbon fiber✔ Wire clip✔ Full flat grind✔But it just doesnt work. The detent is awful, not enough hold to get a very good flip, so you have to push quickly which can cause your flipper finger to fall right into the compression lock preventing lockup, or to have to give it a bit of english with the wrist to pop it open. Then when you wanna close it, you have to pay careful attention to ensure your only touching the very bottom end of the compression lock or the flipper will come back through the back of the handle and stop because your finger is disengaging the lock. It was my first spyderco from taiwan, and in my opinion the fit and finish isnt as nice as the colorado knives. I wanted to love this knife soooooo bad, but in the end it had to go back. You might have better luck if you have smaller hands, or smaller fingers, I have the opposite and it doesnt work. I just couldnt get passed the issues, I'm hoping enough people will complain and spyderco will make a couple small changes, and I really hope they do, cause this is exactly what I'm looking for from spyderco.

Blade HQ...
Trying to figure out why this knife I got from blade HQ was different from the one I had bought from another company about a month or two before hand...the blade came scratched which I was not pleased about...and this knife handled much differently than the previous one...the issues many had with this knife had to do with the way the detent worked for the flipper, saying it was weak, and that when the blade closed that it was semi possible for the blade to still hit your finger and maybe give ya a knick on ur finger, cause I doubt spyderco fixed that issue within a month...just don’t understand why two knives purchased a month or two apart were so different and why a “brand new” knife came scratched...be careful if blade HQ

Quality knife but not for me
I really wanted to love this knife: I love flipper knives and add to it spyderco quality?! I was excited! Unfortunately, I returned it for the following reasons:1. Inconsistent flipper tab (civivi does amazing flipper knives) so didn’t always flip open. No grooves on the flipper tab either. (Pic A)2. Slippery grip3. When closing the compression lock the flipper tab hits my finger preventing the blade from closing properly (Pic D) so the knife stays open.4. I have medium size hands but I could only get 3 finger grip so it didn’t give a solid feeling (Pic C)5. Lack of finger choil on the blade and poor ego design didn’t give that “extension of your hand” experience that a spyderco normally gives and felt that’s a dangerous design. (Pic B)Is this a good quality and well made knife? YES!But the combination of so so ergonomics and unsatisfactory design elements make not functionally efficient and fun so this a pass for me. My suggestion:try the para 3 instead!

Really does span a wide range between Gentlemans dress knife and good reliable work knife.
I've carried this one everyday for nine days now. It is a great product. A good solid knife with much to enjoy about it. The handle texture has just a little more grip / texture than any of my several Spydercos with the same carbon peal ply handle material. Not exactly sure how to explain it but the best I can say it is : less glossy, more matt and so has more texture. The only niggly bit that I can come up with is the flipper tab hitting your finger when closing the knife. After getting used to the knife I can place my finger to the rear of the finger cut out and the flipper tab swings right past my finger and the blade closes all the way in one very swift motion.Other than that the blade shape is superior to most knives, for a work knife (it's not a skinner), including most Spydercos. Good useful point with out too much up sweep for a work knife, the edge continues well back toward the handle which I like. Given the choice I prefer more edge length instead of a finger choil on the blade. The pivot is one of the very most buttery smooth of all my knives. A drop of plain old 10wt machine oil and a degree counter clock wise on the pivot screw then took it to a whole 'nother level of easy smooth.Good heft in the hand with out being heavy, lots of blade / edge length for the handle length. The aesthetics open and closed are very easy on the eyes. I'm a fan of these wire pocket clips; never had a problem and they easily cope with thick winter pants and summer pants pockets without having to bend / tune the pocket clip. The flipper tab is especially well rounded and smoothed and there were absolutely no burs or rough spots any where on the knife.Given the choice I would have preferred M4 steel but S30V is super good. I recommend at least finishing your sharpening session with a diamond stone to properly dress the very hard vanadium carbides and I recommend erring on the polished side with this steel, as opposed to a coarse edge, to take care of any "chippyness" some experience with S30V.This knife really does span a wide range between Gentleman's dress knife and good reliable work knife.Lastly some are having issues with the light detent. On the knife I have it does have a light detent but if one presses in on the tab like pressing a push button rather than "light switching" the tab it has fired reliably ever single time I have tried it and I cannot say that for my Mantra 2. On mine I can shake it very hard when closed and the detent is plenty strong enough to keep the blade closed. In other words, for me, the detent is just right.
