Perhaps a better question would be, "How is the water delivered to the tree? Does the trunk get wet?" At which point I would answer with, "The watering ring has two small ports on either side, pointing away from the tree. These ports slowly release water over a period of a few hours, and never in the direction of the trunk. Therefore, during the four months that this was in nearly daily use, the trees were able to receive a regular amount of water, the tree trunks did not receive any form of moisture, and there was no rot. The trees in question had an opportunity to thrive during the hottest months of the year with very little effort on my part, and in no way did they respond adversely to the ring or the water delivery method." **Q: How long does it take to drip out? We put ours in and they were all empty by the next morning. I thought it was supposed to drip over a few days** A: Seriously...it says 5 to 8 hours! So, it worked like it was supposed to! **Q: What is the actual diameter of ring when filled? The description just has packaging demension.** A: I measured the ring we purchased at 24" outside diameter when filled. The inside opening was 6-7". **Q: Is there a way to fill this on a timer?** A: If by "fill on a timer" you mean to leave the hose inserted into the tree ring and refill by turning hose on/off by timer, then no. Once the tree ring is filled, you need to insert the plug so the water does not escape. When filled, water puts pressure on the ring and it will exit the fill hole rapidly versus slowly through the "holes" on the underside. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My trees love this item. *by D***E on June 20, 2025* Is great for thirsty small trees in Florida. They get a great soaking. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hope for Sick Redwoods *by L***E on September 22, 2016* I am trying these out in an attempt to save my Redwood trees from the drought. I think it is a good idea to have these drip on my trees for at least 6 hours out of each day. Then I have been filling them up early the next morning to drop another 6 hours. I have sometimes filled them up twice in the same day but that is a lot of filling. It only takes a few minutes to fill up each one, though. I have purchased several for my trees. They are not able to fit around my tree trunks as the trunks are too large so I have them placed next to the trucnks.For this use they did not need to have the slits in them.It would be nice to have a product that was just a plane cirlce for these larger trees but I think these will work fine. You just turn on the hose and squirt the water directly into the large holes, wait a few minutes until they are full and close the rubber cap, that's all you have to do. There are two valves on the bottom of each one that let the water out slowly so that it can soak deeply into the ground.It will take months to really know if they are helping the trees but they do let the water drip out as advertized and I am hopeful that they will help. You can see how brown my trees are in my photos.I belong to the Amazon review trader club and as such I receive a discount on some products such as this so that I can try them out and share my experiences with you as potential buyers. I do my best to give them a good trial and to share my honest opinions as well as to tell you how I used the products. Feel free to "like" it if it is. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great! *by D***S on June 16, 2024* I've bought several models that work well and my trees are healthy despite drought. This model works well for the price. One drawback is that I'm on a well and noticed the plugs gradually became blocked and the bags would not empty. Evidently there's build up and the tiny holes at the end of the drip tubes either needed to be cut or removed. I took a pair of pliers and was able to pull the tips off so the water dribbled out more quickly from the larger openings. The bags still fill up and dribble slowly enough to do the job of hydrating the roots just fine, so I've done this procedure every year for several years with each model of bag.
