Very nice texture. It reminds me of mashed up paper
Very nice texture. It reminds me of mashed up paper. I added it with a palette knife to stretched canvas that had been prepared for acrylic. After it dried it was a bit too textured for me so I sanded it a little with fine sandpaper and was happy with the results. Painting with watercolour was like painting on cold pressed paper and the colours held and showed well.

I have used it once but will be using again ...
I have used it once but will be using again. It lost one star because I found it difficult to apply. maybe the problems I have with my hands are to blame for that. It did exactly what it said

updated review
While it is a little think by itself to prep an area for watercolor, I have found that if I mix it 50/50 with transparent, which is quite thin, it gives me a great surface to watercolor on. I use it by its self to give the illusion of sand on a project. Will continue to buy using it the way I am now.

Fun to use
I used Golden’s Watercolor ground to put a light coating on a watercolor canvas board. I especially liked the rough texture, as well as the ease with which the watercolor pigments flowed on the surface. I am anxious to try this medium on other surfaces, like pulp paper, wood, larger acrylic canvases.
