Q: Can this be used for making phone calls? (to improve audio when the person on the other end is recording)

Absolutely. Phone calls, Webex/Zoom/Teams meetings, etc.

Q: can it be used in a camera using trrs to trs adapter?

You would have to make a 3mm (1/8") female to TRS 6.3mm (1/4") male adapter cable. The output from the Saramonic is a hardwired 3mm mono jack. I have an iphone SE 2nd gen with no headphone jack and I use the lightning/headphone adapter to plug the Saramonic Smartrig into my iPhone to use with a recording an app I downloaded from Apple. I've also used this setup to record video with the iPhone. Since the Saramonic Smartrig has a gain control - it greatly improved the audio on our videos. I was also able to improve audio on zoom calls by using a shotgun mic which required phantom power. It's quite versatile.

Q: Will this work with the lightning adapter with iPhones that do not have a headphone jack?

Yes, it will. But monitoring through the headphone output will be app dependant.
