Basic Security Testing with Kali Linux 2 Paperback – March 24, 2016

I am half way through this book and it is written very well so the reader understands what their doing and why their doing it. The author cannot teach you everything about the tool so some additional research will have to be done but that's to be expected. I will definitely pick up the intermediate book once I finish this one. Pick it up for your trying to learn Kali you won't regret it! Also the use of screenshot with the text is a great addition that is really helpful.

Extremely clear and thorough. The book doesn't just blow superficially through topics like many of the other books I've read on pentesting. You get detailed tutorials and examples of how to use the tools listed, with screenshots included for reference. I look forward to reading the intermediate book next.

This book is for anyone that needs and wants a solid foundation within Kali Linux. This is for somebody that wants to go into the Cyber security field.

This book is excellent for those that want hands-on labs to learn pentesting. There are tons of books & training out there that are packed with theory and little practical application -- this hands on book will have you up to speed in short order. One of the best intro to intermediate books I've seen on the subject. 😀👍

I would love to see an update version of this book for 2019! Well worth the money and a very easy read!

I am about halfway through so far. While I like that it is giving one a good view of all the different angles and steps in security testing, it is very disappointing to hit tutorial after tutorial that one cannot follow. I have hit multiple examples that result in a message the version of meterpreter is not compatible with the script. The xplico section states the author is using a known working version, as the current version had problems, but does not state how one can get to that working version to follow the tutorial. The subterfuge tutorial is also not working, claiming the target does not exist even though the Kali host can ping it. As a technical user I completely understand that things change quickly in this space, but would have liked to see a URL at the beginning of the book where the author could provide updates as things change, impacting whether the tutorials need to be adjusted. I do still look forward to finishing out the book and being able to move on to more specific material in increase my knowledge.

Great book and is an easy read with a lot of references and guides with step by step instructions! I recommend it to anyone in the InfoSec world that focuses on Pen-testing!

Great book to read, great walk-through for Kali Linux. This book shines a light on alot of things that were mysteries in the world of computer networks and interconnected devices.
