fabulous read, barely put it down
A great read, if you're a Daevid and Gong enthusiast you'll love it. Lots of info about the tracks and each album is set in the time it was made, with background on the lives of the band/s at the time of recording. I would love to see an in depth biog one day about Daevid Allen, in the vein of the Robert Wyatt one from some years ago. This has a lot of biography surrounding the making of each disc so was fascinating. Looking forward now Kevan, hint hint, to an 'on track' about his solo work and maybe Steve Hillage's too, also pre Gong days, collaborations such as with Kramer, Microcosmic etc etc. Or just a full on biography if you can see your way to it for me, hehehe.

Attention to detail and Historical context is superb.
I am a very late convert to the wonders and magic of Gong having dismissed them in the 70`s as being too weird. As I`m a big Steve Hillage fan I recently decided to get into Gong helped by the fabulous Love From Planet Gong box set. I was also a fan of Kevan Furbank after his excellent On Track book on Fairport Convention. Furbank does not skimp on detail. Each album and each track has a long description, and details of who played what and even the key played in in some cases. Gongs music is not always the most accessible but seems to have got better with time. This book does a great job in bringing each album back to life. Highly recommended.

Fantastic Read
If you are a Gong fan then this is truly a great read, if you're not a Gong fan then read it anyway. Also why are you not a Gong fan.
