I can totally understand why some people, having spent many hundreds or thousands of pounds already on their studio set up, would be resentful at then feeling like they have to buy these as well..But, just like insurance, you don’t have to. But it could save you a lot of grief and expense if you do. Because I have had so many computer problems over the years that having what software I can registered on these (rather than having all my eggs in one computer basket) honestly helps me sleep at night..The next time a computer inexplicably dies, or is stolen, then there is a fortunes worth of software that I won’t have to buy all over again because it’s (effectively) on these..Having said that, the software version of iLok was never as temperamental as this hardware one can occasionally be, and I totally understand people’s bad moods and bad reviews..However, maybe those people are spoiled and somehow used to all tech working perfectly and smooth as silk all the time, so these little hiccups piss them off loads. Well they must be on a different planet to me, because on my planet all tech has its temperamental side, and this iLoks tiny little hiccups are not enough for me to throw the baby out with the bath water..So I would still recommend most people who take their studios seriously should probably invest in something like this ASAP.
