Sewing Pretty Little Accessories: Charming Projects to Make and Give

Great Designs, Loved Half of Them
I really LOVE the DESIGN of these projects. I also liked many of the CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES (esp. zipper installation with side tabs). However there are some of the projects like that of the cover was mixed. I liked the look of the finished cover with the book inside, but I have better patterns for a book cover with better construction techniques related to functionality of the design that I like better so I will borrow from both to make myself one that suits my needs and preferences. Another example is the coin purse, loved the way the zipper was installed but didn't like the half moon bottom so for me I would just change the shape on the bottom to a square. There is what I would call a chipboard mini album covered with fabric in the book and the use of hot glue to adhere the fabric to the chipboard looked very unfamiliar to me and so I have no idea how well that will work out in practice. The zippered makeup bag and passport were really well designed and constructed. My fav project was the lined water bottle cover for your purse which I will be making first. Half the projects were excellent, the other half, I'm not too sure about. Also, this isn't a gorgeously photographed book with lots of photo styling, set design etc. but there are step by step instructions with photos that are the most important but I do miss having a beautifully photographed and designed book. The other thing I thought I would mention is that the patterns call for a 3/8" seam allowance, which you have to add to the templates which is very unusual. In most cases, patterns like these call for a 1/4" seam allowance that is already included in the template. Perhaps this is because the patterns were written in Taiwan and that is their standard, I do not know.

Book
Even my husband likes this book. When I wanted to look at it I had to search his sewing tables.

Sewing Pretty Little Things
I purchased this book only because I adore one of Cherie Lee's other books, Sewing Pretty Little Things. I am delighted equally with this book. The simple, useful items to sew are desirable and inspiring. I like the way fabrics and trims are combined to create charming useful items. The projects include little cases, bags, slippers, totes, and notebook covers, with full-size patterns included in a pouch at the back of the book. This book had me at the photographs, but clear instructions and full-size patterns make me completely satisfied!

Pretty to look at, that's it.
I bought this and her other book Sewing Pretty Little Things. Although the photos of the finished items were inspiring, the instructions were a bit lacking and the photos accompanying them were a bit hard to decipher. Definitely not a book for those who have never sewn bags or accessories before. I have sewn three items, two were quite easy but the last one (a clutch) was a bit frustrating as the instructions and methods left a lot to be desired. There are better sewing patterns sold by indie designers. If you just want to be inspired, go for it but don't expect to be able to replicate the items with ease.

Cute little book with lots of ideas
The thing that drew me in was the cover to this book. It intrigued me so I bought it. This is a great book for getting ideas and modifying the projects. (The cover is a book cover, and I modified it to fit a Kindle)

Not as Expected by the Hype
I bought her first book which was great but the hype on this proved to be very disappointing. Had I been able to physically look at this book before purchase I would not have spent the money. Most of the projects are useless repeats of each other in various sizes. Save your money unless you truly want lots of designs for book and note book covers and makeup bags.
