Has anyone wore this while sleeping? Did it seem to help?

I use mine mostly at night because it is designed to be fairly restrictive and when I wear if for say an hour or so during the day, then I can't do a lot of things with that hand. These thumb stabilizers have helped me a lot, however my condition is heading toward surgery, and I wouldn't be surprised if the doc wanted me to wear this while recovering. Be careful not to over tighten as it isn't necessary to get full benefit and may restrict blood flow to the very area that needs maximum circulation to help. I have several of these and hand wash them and hang them outside to dry. Folks complaining about it hurting them and having to take it off half way through the night may just be wearing it too tightly as the objective is that it is comfortable and greatly restricts movement but not totally eliminate any movement.

Question 2

I have basal thumb arthritis and just started working out at a gym.  Gripping and working with weights is painful in my thumbs. Will these help?

Hi, don't know if this will help you.  It's my husband that wears these supports.  He too has arthritis throughout his hand, carpal tunnel, chronic tennis elbow combined with shoulder problems.  He's 65 and has worked as a mechanic for 50 years.  He started developing severe pain about 4 to 5 years ago. He's been through cortisone shots galore but he still experienced hand (especially in the thumb/wrist area).  The pain was worst when he used his high power air tools.  I suggested wearing a support and found these at Amazon.  I got one for him and he was so happy with it that he now has six of them (so he still has a couple when the rest are in the wash).  He has told me that he has gotten considerable relief, even when using the air tools.  He believes it is specifically because of the support he gets through the thumb/wrist area.  I am not a doctor so cannot really comment if it will work for you when lifting weights.  My only suggestion might be to purchase one (they're not that expensive) and see how it works for you. My wrist is just under 5.5" (about 5.25), will is still work, or be to large?

My wrist is also 5 1/4" and it works fine.  It has given me great relief from sharp arthritis pain in my thumb joint.  I only need to wear it at night and when I work out with weights.  I'm going to buy a second one so that I can always have one on my night stand and another in my gym bag.

is this good for right hand?

Actually, I found that it worked well on my left hand because the straps pull my thumb up and back. When worn on the right hand, the straps tighten in a way that pushes the thumb in toward the palm. I found it more uncomfortable and there is no way to change this. That was just my experience though, it is a well made product, and may serve your needs just fine.
