So far so good
Been using it for about a week. More difficult for us to install than I anticipated, but wasn't too bad... Unfortunately wheb it's been really cold it will freeze and not open... But, my girls won't go outside when it's that cold anyways. I really appreciate that it locks when closed so the coons and other clever predators can't just push it open like some other models. It's made chicken keeping a easier.

Such a great door!
So I bought this door back in April, but I wanted to see how it worked through some really cold weather before I reviewed it. This door is the real deal! It opens and closes automatically based on the amount of light that is available. I could program this to go up and down at a certain time of day, but my chickens are very responsive to the light setting. The only thing that would’ve been beneficial with this door is if there was an app that was attached to our cell phones, allowing us to open and close the door. early on I would have to go out to the chicken coop and re-open the door at dusk to let a few of my girls back in. That only happened a couple times and now they are very good at always making it in for the night. I highly recommend this automatic door. Thanks for a great product

Best service in my life
I'm 80 years old and in all these years this is the best service I have ever experienced. Chad answered my many emails quickly and thoroughly. I ordered before I built the chicken house thinking it would only take a short time to build. It took me much longer than expected and my return period was long gone. Chad continued to help us with every little question. A short while after installation and working well, it suddenly quit working properly. Chad gave us his cell number and invited us to call and have him guide us through resetting. He has even offered to replace if we can't get it working correctly. I would have no problem ordering any product he offered. My guess is that this glitch is rare, but in a time period of poor service, Happy Henhouse and Chad are also rare!! I know he will make sure we have a perfectly operating door.

Love the locking mechanism!
This is our 3rd automatic door purchase from Happy Hen. This door is bigger than our previous Happy Henhouse purchases, precisely what we needed. The controls are a bit different than the 8" door controller, but my husband didn't seem to have any trouble. I love that it doesn't have a bottom lip for the door to rest on when closed. This means there is no track to clean out, so the door goes all the way down and locks. This door is on a cattle-pannel hoop coop, and the birds are out in a paddock surrounded by electrical fencing. They are too far away to hear if there was a predator, so we needed something to lock down at night.I love Happy Hen products and recommend them to anyone needing a good chicken door.

Good Product, But Not Very Durable
We purchased this automatic door in June of 2021 and got a little more than 18 months of use out of it before it failed to work. From what I could tell, it seems as if moisture was able to get into the unit. The rubber seal between the two pieces was in place, but it looked like the issue was with the buttons on the control panel being pushed in. This may have caused the unit the get moisture inside of it. I reached out to the company several times and they were very helpful as far as troubleshooting issues regarding the unit, however, the advice offered did not fix the problem. I had hoped that this unit would last several years, but unfortunately it did not. Please keep in mind that we live in northeast Ohio (Cleveland area) and I see no reason why this unit would not last longer in a more temperate climate. We ended up purchasing a door from Run Chicken because we could not afford the risk of predators while trying to resolve the issue any further.

Life changing
As a relatively new chicken owner, I am very worried all the time about my birds (and maybe that will never change) and I wanted something reliable and most of all, safe. I read lots of reviews on Amazon, top ten lists, etc. and those with gears really scared me so I narrowed down the search to one moved by a string. This door was easy to put on even though I had to modify the coop opening with plywood since it was a very large opening. And something that NEVER happens is that I programmed this and it worked on the very first shot. I've since had to change times on it and have manually opened/closed it several times and everything is flawless. It locks shut when it closes and is heavy enough to not easily get stuck but not heavy enough to hurt a chicken. It's waterproof and had it rained on heavily a few times but have since put a board over it to protect it just in case. It's also very quiet. The door seemed small to me compared to the opening in the coop but our 2 foot tall beast of a rooster was able to get in and out just fine. One reason I also picked this was because I wanted it on a timer since it is going to be under a roof in the shade and didn't want to worry about sunlight to activate it.The only thing I suppose I could ask for in addition would be an app to control it but as of now, there is no wifi out there anyway and as long as it reliably opens and closes at specific times, I don't need remote management so this has been just perfect and reasonably priced.

Not reliable
This device worked well when first purchased. I did not program it, only using the up and down buttons to open and close. After 3 months I got up one morning and the door was open and the chickens were out. On checking our security cameras it showed the door opening at 12:30am. As we live in a remote area with predators, I disconnected the motor as it can no longer be trusted. The door can still be used manually.
