I love the lyric selections in this book -Grieg's music is so beautiful and memorable! Many of the pieces are short (between 2-6 pages) and overall would require intermediate piano skills, some pieces being more challenging than others. I use this as a fun book to play from when I need to relax from the other more complex music that I'm learning.The book is quite thick, but it stays open fairly well (we'll see of my answer changes once I play something closer to the middle of the book).

Just what the junk journal needs. Sheet music. I got tired of looking in the junk stores (thrift) for music paper of any kind. SO I BIT THE BULLET and bought 3 of these. SPENDY for just ripping up, I know, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do. One of them has over SEVEN HUNDRED pages! I believe I'm set for life!!! They are nice books too. I plan to coffee/tea stain some of the pages for a vintage feel. Great books!!

I dislike music books that are not spiral bound.

Gosh, these are wonderful pieces and such fun to play. They range in difficulty from fairly simple to quite technically tough in a few cases but most pianists of moderate ability (like me) will find many to enjoy. Grieg writes often in a folk manner, summoning the spirit of his native Norway with dances, wedding marches and nationalistic songs. Many of these pieces have a melancholic tinge, others are wistful but some a sheer joy. There are also some unusual harmonies that were ahead of their time. There are over 60 of these mainly short sketches (although some run several pages and are more ambitious) and they are an inexhaustible source of delight. The edition, as one would expect, is clear with fingering and solidly bound for years of use.

I have been playing this pieces in the morning lately. Grieg had a very interesting approach to harmony. In many of his pieces there is movement in the middle parts of the chord, which are very minimal, but which create very surprising harmonies. For example, "Elfin Dance" has a neat harmonic trick happening in middle, sandwiched between the top and bottom notes.His music is very chromatic and free. In someways I feel he almost set the stage for Debussy, who was about the same time era. I really like "Butterfly" and "Notturno".

A lot of the pieces sound the same to me, but there are also a lot of real gems in this collection. Charming little songs, most not terribly difficult to play.

This book has offered me countless hours of playing, and has provided wonderful selections for lessons as well as personal entertainment. This has been my most satisfying purchase on Amazon, and it is great to have all of Grieg's lyric pieces.
