Ironwood Pacific HelmsMate Tiller Extension Handle U | Universal Joint Model | 37"-51" Extendable

A perfect solution. 9 foot RIB (100+ pounds) with a 6HP outboard. Driving this RIB while seated in the stern left the RIB plowing along with the bow up at a significant angle. Adding this tiller extension allowed me to steer and control the speed while sitting forward in the “rowing seat” and the RIB to balance out and get up on a plane giving us a smooth, easy ride. The tiller grip on my outboard is 1-3/4” diameter. The coupling had to be manually stretched open a bit to get it on but it allowed the tiller to be fully inserted and securely clamped into the coupling. There were some reviews that indicated that the unit vibrated noisily and that the grip handle easily slipped off. Apparently the manufacturer noted and corrected these issues since neither are applicable to the unit that I received a couple of days ago. Installation / removal was a matter of just a couple of minutes. Having the ability to switch from an articulated to a fixed steering arm extension is a huge advantage depending on which side of the boat you are steering from. It took a little practice to feel comfortable sitting so far away from the outboard tiller but once I got a feel for it there were no problems with steering or throttle control even at higher speeds (not recommended by the manufacturer/supplier). Overall, I am much happier with this tiller extension than I expected I would be and would not hesitate to recommend it. It is a well made product,

I have several friends that struggled to find good use of this. I just used it for 5 hours of trolling and I absolutely love it. The push pull action takes a minute to get used to. Once you do, it works great! I could stand in the near middle of my boat and run the kicker with ease. Very nice option. Great product. Highly recommend.

This handle is perfect for what I need. It does everything it says it can. Solid material and fits my trolling motor like a dream. Small enough to store and move around.

This is a well built product, good quality, great delivery. A couple of things that I didn't like, hence 4 stars instead of 5. First and foremost; do not trust that this this will stay attached. It's a great tool, but be prepared for when your at full throttle and it comes off the tiller. I knew this happened to other people and then it happened to me on my kayak. Thankfully my little 40 thrust trolling motor had a low battery and we went straight into a soft bank, could have been much worse. Scary being out of control like that. I'll still use it, but I'm respecting that it should have a sheer pin of some kind to make sure it doesn't detach. Secondly, the foam hand cushion comes loose, during my first, easy fix but just saying this shouldn't happen.

I used a little soapy water on the trolling motor handle. The HelmsMate slid on and tightened up nicely.

I purchased this extension for my electric trolling motor on my NuCanoe Frontier 12" kayak. Put it to the test on a three day fishing trip in the inshore waters and creeks around Charleston, SC. The knuckle joint is the key to easy of use. I was able to move my seat to achieve a 50/50 balance in the kayak and paddle comfortably or cruise under power in control. The extension is easy to slip to the right point you need. I did need to remove the interior collar to fit the handle on my motor, but that was an easy change. The extersion tightens well and easily on the handle and has a comfortable padded handle for your hand. Well made and the knuckle joint is heavy duty. Great value. shipping was quick too. Would recommend or buy again.

I bought this handle after looking for a solution to my river boating troubles. I have an 80 pound thrust trolling motor, on a 14 foot jon boat. The motors shaft is 42 inches long. Sometimes I need to raise the motor to operate as shallow as possible, to avoid rocks. When the motor is positioned like this, the handle is much too high to operate comfortably from a sitting position. The HelmsMate Tiller Extension w/Ujoint is the perfect solution. It allows me to operate standing or sitting and from any angle. The handle also allows me to troll/steer with one hand while casting with another (while standing or sitting). The unit fits snugly over the existing motor handle, and all functions work well, including throttle control. I am very pleased with the heavy duty construction and the overall quality of this unit.

In the never ending fishing gadget collection I’ve added a new favorite. My only gripe with my now perfect setup was that I had to tweak my back when I wanted to turn I fixed this by just using the padel to steer, but it’s a little dodgy. This was something that I was going to create, but it would’ve cost more! Seems super solid will update if salt water messes it up. The only negative thing I can say is that I purchased this thinking I needed it to extend, but really this thing is perfect for a kayak as is.

If you can look past the state of my evil workshop, you’ll see how this tiller extension really works well with my kayak setup. I don’t have time to setup cable steering so i bought this, though at a premium.. It steers well back and forth, is adjustable easily for my two seat positions, and i can also use it to leverage the motor out of the water in case it gets shallow. It is good quality though the only downfall is it’s high price. I still recommend if you’re like me and aren’t quite set on running cables and wires for steering and speed control. Perfekt, super Handling egal wo man sitzt oder steht.Habe das Teil an meinem 15 PS Mercury am 380er Schlauchboot. Durch die festen Arretierungmöglichkeiten ist ein präzises Lenken und Gasgeben möglich. Auch kommt man gut an den Motorstop ran. Hatte schon andere Verlängerungen, aber keine war auch nur annähernd so gut. Das Gelenk ist der Hit! Diese Pinnenverlängerung ist den Preis wert!

I have not used it yet but have attached it to my tiller and I can tell you it will do the job perfectly. The u-joint gives full control at any angle and it also grips and twists the handle tightly for throttle adjustment. Can extend to a silly length but is still very sturdy and has same control.

The extended tiller is for my fishing boat. I read reviews and other people's comments about tillers and determined the one I wanted should have a metal u-joint. So I ordered this model. It is exactly as described. It is very sturdy which is what I was looking for. The packaging was a bit beat up but the actual tiller was fine. Since it is winter I will have to wait a few months to try it out.
