It gives a little added security as someone would have to have a tool to take your kayak. It is not a huge deterrent as the cable is fairly thin. For the price, i would expect a little more. ### ⭐⭐⭐ It works, but it's hard to set up properly every time *by R***B on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on July 1, 2022* This locking mechanism work by looping the longer wire around one end of your kayak, looping the shorter piece around the other end, then threading the end of the longer wire through the shorter one, then locking it to a chain or some other locking mechanism. It works, but only as long as there's no way to reduce the tension between whatever/however the cable is locked to and your kayak. If it's possible to just move the yak closer to what you locked it too, the tension can be released to the point where it would be easy to flip one loop off one end of your kayak, and away it goes into a thief's hands. So yes... it works... but it's only as good as the install, and the install has to be carefully done each and every time you use it. If you only lock up your yak occasionally, this is a good method. We lock ours up every day outside of our lakehouse, and I admit that there have been days when I went to unlock it, only to realize that we hadn't done a good enough job locking it up the night before. While this is user error, a simple modification of this design would be to provide another couple of small loops on the locking end of the long wire so that you could thread the long wire through the shorter one, then back onto itself and onto one of these smaller loops that would assure that the tension between the two ends of the yak is maintained.. I'm no engineer, but I do think this would be a huge upgrade. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great locking cables for peace of mind *by T***5 on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on July 8, 2020* Used this for a kayaking trip where our kayaks were left outside on our car at a hotel. Worked great. Make sure your kayaks taper at both ends though, or these will not work. The little loop where the lock goes did break on us at one point, but we just locked it above the crimp in the cable to finish out our trip. Contacted the company to send a replacement and they responded quickly to send me a new set. You do need to pull these tight and do some extra wrapping around your roof rack. Do not buy these if you have an ocean style kayak as those do not taper at one end. These are not made for that style.
