Qualitative Reading Inventory-6, with Enhanced Pearson eText -- Access Card Package 6th Edition

This is a wonderful resource for a reading specialist or reading teacher who need to analyze the reading behaviors of students. The new edition comes with 8 years of access to the etext where you can print the needed pages through a pdf link (without the copyright notice on the center on the page). You simply need to click the printer icon for a link to the full pdf file with all the easily printable pages. I am just beginning to use this resource with elementary students that I work with, but so far it has worked out well as the directions are very clear and precise. In addition to determining a child's three different reading levels, there is another section for grades 4 and up where teachers can analyze how students make inferences in text. As a professional reading educator, I would recommend this resource to other reading professionals or teachers who wish to assess students' reading levels.

A co-worker went to a training on this book and she gave me a crash course. I ordered one book for my schools special education department. Another co-worker love it too. So I ordered a copy just for me. It is a great resource where you can assess students on different reading areas at one time. It’s great data to use in the students IEP paperwork.

Pretty good for a college book.

I bought this version because of the access card. Unfortunately, my university is not subscribed and I could not gain access to the videos and information I paid extra for.

I'm excited to use QRI to help identify the struggling readers in my classroom. The data provided will help me target my instruction to meet the needs of the students. The directions in this book are easy to follow. The online access makes it quite easy to print the forms needed for assessment as well. Since I'm new to QRI, the audio samples provide online are very helpful too.

I accidentally recycled the access code card without realizing what it was. How can I get access? I’ve looked to see if any information is in the book.

This one star review has more to do with the update than the QRI-6 itself. In the fifth edition they included a CD with all the PDF files where you could print out the student reading lists, student passages, examiner inventory sheets, etc. to use to assess the reader. Now, they have switched to an online version where you can access the eText version of the book. However, if you want to print out any of these things now from the eText, a huge copyright banner appears across the entire page making it illegible in parts and useless to put in front of students. I even went to customer support (twice) and the best they could do for me was an email telling me to get in touch with my local Pearson sales representative (who has yet to get back to me). It's ridiculous that this reading assessment tool is in essence useless without the necessary PDFs that don't have a copyright banner across them. I wish I could buy the 5th edition again with the CD that I could use. As it stands now, I will have to spend hours and hours in front of a copier to make copies off the hardcopy of the book, or return it and find something else. What a awful oversight on behalf of Pearson.
