## Description

Oxygen absorbers are made of a chemical compound, the active ingredient of which is a powdered iron oxide. Our absorbers are completely safe. While they are not edible, they are not toxic. No harmful gases are created and the oxygen does not remove the fresh smell and taste of the product. When used with proper packaging and sealing, the oxygen in the packaging is greatly reduced. Our absorbers bring the oxygen level down reliably to.01% or less.

Review: Five Stars - Great!
Review: *** IMPORTANT *** After opening *** MUST PUT IN AIR TIGHT CONTAINER IMMEDIATELY *** - Bought a dehydrator for the first time had no clue how to use these packets. I opened the package, not knowing that you have to put it immediately back into an airtight container again. Went to google how to store dry foods on the internet - when I came back, the whole bag was warm! I panicked and thought I was going to burn the house down - or, that it might explode! I am not a chemist and have long forgotten anything I've ever learned from high school. Had to go back and google how to use these things! I wish the package had large warning labels, or IMPORTANT PLEASE READ instructions in the box - if it did, I didn't see it. I need bifocals and couldn't read whatever little prints are on the package. Now, am not too certain if they're still good or not. I used a few with some dry cereal and i heard the jars pop and seal. Am glad to learn about these handy little packs though, will find them most useful. Since my sweetie died I've had more time to think about things that I've taken for granted all our life. I guess we were out enjoying out lives too much and didn't realize this as an option. I'm looking forward to dehydrating oranges, bananas, fruits, vegetable chips, jerky, herbs and teas; of course for storing my sugar, flour, rice beans. Over all my 30+ married life, have thrown away so much food because never stored anything properly. Flour would sit on my shelf that I would use once or twice - then, it would taste horrible after several months of non-use, I end up throwing it all away. This should preserve the life of my dry foods much longer. A much appreciated product that I wish I'd of used years ago! Looking forward to canning and preserving more foods throughout the rest of my life.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: These are the 100cc version. What size container should I use these on? How do I know what "cc" rating I need to use for my various storage projects**
A: An empty pint canning jar holds about 500 cc of "air" which is about 20% oxygen. If you have about a pint of "air" in a container that has food in it you would use one of these packets. The number of packets you use in any container depends on how much "air" you have in the container. You can improve on this by pulling as much air out of the container as you can so the packet is dealing with less "air" and therefore less oxygen. If you want to experiment you can put marbles in the container up to the fill line - add water to the top - and pour the water off into a measuring cup to estimate the potential volume of "air" that would be in the filled container without pulling a vacuum in the container. Using a vacuum device (food sealer, brake line bleeder, vacuum cleaner, etc) will reduce the volume of air in the container and as a result the amount of oxygen will be reduced.A second issue is that under ideal conditions (a sealed glass jar with a strong vacuum in it that is filled nearly to the top with something like flour or rice) if the packet is on the bottom it will take quite a while for what little oxygen that remains to migrate from where ever it is to where the packet is and the stored food will be exposed to small amounts of oxygen during that migration - so I put one near the bottom of the container and one near the top. I can pack a 1/2 gallon canning jar with pecans so it has around a pint of "air" and than I pull a vacuum in the jar resulting in very little oxygen to begin with. Two packets is overkill, but overkill works better than under kill. The issue here is that it is the oxygen that makes the food go rancid.

**Q: Can I store the unused ones in a vacuum bag to keep them fresh? I am going to use these with my powder spices to prevent clumping.**
A: i do store mine in Food Saver bags to keep them fresh. I make tomato powder and even when using the OA's it still clumps, but the flavor is delicious. I read some where that silica will stop the clumping. I don't know if that's true for spices too.

**Q: For coffee lovers: Would these be good to put in with coffee beans to help prolong freshness? Would like to divide up 5# into 1# amounts, if helpful.**
A: I think this would be fine - if whole beans and not ground, vacuum sealing should keep it fresh 4-6 months, maybe longer. If you kept the bags in the freezer, that might extend your time even more. But it's tricky, as there are oils in the beans so they can go rancid if it isn't done properly. Good luck!

**Q: I see they can't be frozen apparently but what happens if I've already put some in the freezer with some dehydrated and vacuum sealed food? Ruined?**
A: I have been researching on your question and I can't find the answer. I have put dehydrated and vacuum sealed food in the freezer but I have never used an absorber with them. Sorry I could not help you. Sounds like a question for me to know too. Hope you find the answer. Carrissa

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ these things actually work
*by M***C on 7 April 2026*

I started dehydrating food and these were the missing piece I did not know I needed. Threw one in a mason jar with some dehydrated fruit and the lid actually sealed itself which was super cool to watch happen in real time. Just make sure you seal the unused ones back up fast because they start absorbing oxygen almost immediately once you open the bag.
