Also known as White-flowered gourd and Upo or Opo, this edible variety is vigorous, disease-tolerant, and high yielding. The fruit is sweet and has light green skin. Gourds grow to 12-14 inches long and weigh about 2.5 pounds. Pick when fruit is immature for best taste. Train to climb a vertical support for better air circulation, straighter fruit and ease of harvest. Bottle gourd flowers during early evening to sunrise. Hand pollination may help to increase production. Harvest fruit when young and tender. Soak seeds in water overnight before planting to increase germination. Start indoors in flats 6-8 weeks before last frost date. Transplant outside after danger of frost has passed. Or Sow seeds in spring/early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. 65-70 days to maturity.
