## Overview

A Touch of Evil: Dark Gothic is a 2-6 player deck-building card game by Flying Frog Productions, designed for ages 12 and up. With a 60-minute playtime, players embody monster-hunting heroes using three distinct currencies to build decks, cooperate to prevent defeat, and compete for investigation points. This game refines and condenses the beloved Touch of Evil board game into a faster, more strategic, and highly replayable experience.

## Description

Each player represents a particular monster-hunting hero in the game, and that hero determines the player's starting deck and grants a special ability. The heroes work together to some degree to defeat villains and monsters as they collectively lose the game if ten cards land in the shadows during play. The player who has the most investigation points at the end of the game wins. The game uses three currencies; combat (red), cunning (green) and spirit (blue), with some cards having a silver cost that can be paid with any currency. Players can acquire cards from a row of six that are available from the main deck or from piles of cards that are always available. If you fight the hungry dead an always available card that costs one of each color you can remove a card from your deck or from the central row. Dark Secrets are a special type of card that get added to your deck through various means. The card is worth negative points at the end of the game, but should you draw it during play, you remove it from the game, then draw a Shocking Discovery which will affect you or all players with some kind of pernicious effect. Will you defeat the monster and undead that roam Dark Gothic, or will you fall prey to the Touch of Evil?

Review: Superior Version of Touch of Evil Board Game. - The Dark Gothic Deck-builder is basically a card game version of Flying Frog's Touch of Evil Board game. And, in my opinion, a BETTER version of that game. As much as I admire Flying Frog aesthetics, ethos, artwork and ideas (in terms of 'theme', FF's games are nearly always a 9 or 10), their board games always fall flat for me and nearly all of my game group. Sadly, all of FF's board games incorporate the very WORST of AmeriTRASH games of old. In terms of game mechanics, they're just dated, even bad, when compared to more modern and Euro-influenced games. The Dark Gothic card game fixes most of Flying Frog's game design issues. Gothic uses tried and tested Deck-Building game mechanics with a few tweeks, adds FF's theme and (gloriously cheesy) artwork to create a solid Fantasy Frog gaming experience. Avoid the "Touch of Evil" board game and get this instead. It's cheaper, shorter and a more solid gaming experience.
Review: All the fun of "A Touch of Evil" in a smaller, quick playing deck-building card game! - I love the "A Touch of Evil" boardgame by Flying Frog Productions. Sadly it doesn't make it to the table in my game group as often as I'd like. This quick deckbuilding version of the game though is easy enough to setup and play and still carries enough of the theme for me. The production quality is right in line with all the other Flying Frog games and as always the art and theme are enjoyable. The rules are easy to learn and after a few hands you'll have them memorized. Replayability is high as well as the enemies and decks always change and you have a good selection of heroes to choose from. Finally, there is at least one expansion that can be added to the game if you ever feel it's growing stale.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun, semi-cooperative, deck building game
*by R***R on May 23, 2015*

I like this game. It's a deck building game where the players work in a semi-cooperative way. Unlike other semicooperative games, you don't spend any time in this one back stabbing other players. You can play with anywhere between two – six players. One of the nice things about this game is that you never have a turn where you just sit with nothing to do. You must accumulate resources, combat, cunning, or spirit, to vanquish foes, and score points. Many of the classic New England monsters are here for you to pick your wits against. Another nice thing about the game is that it plays in less than an hour. There is enough randomness to it that it has a moderately high replay value.
