L'intelligence des fleurs (1907) was, I judge, the last of Maeterlinck's really great works, and I have read almost all of them (he suffered a writer's block after it from which he never fully recovered -- he went on to write a lot more, but almost never of the same quality again). Showing a deep knowledge of botany and a poet's descriptive powers, he demonstrates that plants show an ability to adapt to, and exploit, their environment that is comparable to the intelligence we find in the animal kingdom. This new translation is first-rate, and accompanied by an outstanding introduction.

This was bought as a gift , after months of searching for this book in local stores, this was a great find and a perfect price.

Not mesmerizing, but certainly food for thought. A nice read for gardeners or anyone investigating synchronicity.
