Fisher Space Pen Bullet Pen - 400 Series - Chrome w/Clip - Gift Boxed

Very pleased with this pen. It came in a very professional looking case, along with history and refill order info. This would make an awesome gift! I bought this for EDC, and it's easy to forget that it's in my pocket, which is a good thing. Very small and compact, and yet it still opens to a full size pen for prolonged use. The cap is very secure with an O-ring. It's not going to fall off by accident. The pen is very well engineered. At first, I wanted it to be heavier (feels a little on the light side and the metal looks thin). But that's because it needed to be lightweight for use in outer space; you pay for every extra gram carried. So no complaints after realizing that. Probably the most affordable and coolest pen I'll ever buy. I'll definitely get more as gifts soon.

I wouldn't be without my Space Pen! In my day-job I do an AWFUL lot of handwriting. Quite often this is in less than desirable conditions - wind, rain, snow, etc. I work in and out doors in Fife, so I get all four seasons well and truly flung at me. This pen will write on wet paper, without tearing holes in it. It will write when the temperature is too low for normal pens. It will even write over greasy spots or marks on the page. The ink is a good solid colour, and the nip runs smoothly. The ink lasts a long time - about the same as any other 'quality' pen refill. However, every inch of that will be good solid writing, with no scribbling about trying to get it to work. You know it's empty when one day, all of a sudden, it just stops. There's no fading out or anything like that. This is good, as you get every last drop out of the barrel, but it means it's a good idea to have a spare to hand. This is a barrel and cap design - the cap comes off and goes on the other end to use - so not ideal if like me you tend to put things down and not pick them back up again. I know there's the old joke about NASA using this, whereas the Russians used a pencil... however, in many situations a pencil is neither desirable nor allowed (the latter in my workplace), so this is useful, even here on terra firma.

This is a nice! It is smaller than I expected, which can be looked at as good and bad: it's good because that makes the pen very good to carry around, it's bad because, unless you've 'posted' the cap (put the cap on the inactive end of the pen before writing), it feels too small to write with. I feel this is by design: with it's very compact size and rugged construction, this pen is an ideal pen for carrying with you wherever you go, and I think that was exactly what Fisher had in mind when they designed it. Once you do post the cap, the pen is normal size, and very comfortable to write with. It has a pleasing weight to it. It feels like a quality item. It's beautifully made from solid brass. This is no cheap plastic throw-away pen! The cartridge writes smoothly, and is famous for its ability to write in all sorts of hostile conditions, again adding to its appeal as a pen to carry with you everywhere. The only thing that I would change about this pen is to make it available for purchase with blue ink as well as black. That's just my personal preference, so I don't feel I should remove a star for it. It would just be nice if Fisher gave us the choice. I don't believe they give us a choice, even if the pens are bought directly from them. By the way, I've seen that many people complain about the clip, but I think it's fine the way it is. Mine seems to be on the pen fairly solidly. Time will tell if it stays that way.
