It came charged and ready to use, it holds its charge when not in use and last for many hours before it needs to be charged again. So the answer is no. **Q: What kind of screw driver is that?** A: A tiny Phillips screwdriver that fits the tiny screws on the case. Almost the size of the eyeglass screwdrivers. It's about 2 inches long. Anything else would be too big. **Q: About how many hours does this battery last?** A: It lasts months..of course you have to charge the 3ds once the battery runs low..but it's a good battery.. **Q: I have the original 3ds, its battery does not last long before I have to recharge it. How long does this one last?** A: I got one of these rechargeable batteries for an original 3ds but to my dismay, the new battery was probably just a little better than the original battery.
