Needed an epilogue though.....Spoilers
I liked this Elena a lot. She made decisions stuck with them and was a better person. But it wasn't just because Stefan per sue, like it was in the first book. Its because the decisions she made were ones she should of made in the first place. She was much kinder and selfless more mature. Because of this Elena's friends lead better lives that didn't circle around Elena with her wants and needs. It was also sweet that all the decisions (like her prom dress etc) instead of trying to fish for Stefan. She really put Damon first. Like wearing a red dress to prom instead if wearing an Italian reinassance dress for Stefan. Damon became a better person and faster bc Elena really showed him he was worthy even in the beginning he had a good heart. Someone just needed to take a chance on him and show him love. In the end Elena ended up with the right person but it felt rushed. The last couple of pages. Other than that it was a great book. I always felt in the earlier books Elena was alittle too codependent on Stefan in a unhealthy way especially at her young age. But it all changed and she became a woman and found her man. You can only run from destiny so long. But is he human or vampire its left unknown. Let's just say he told her he'd have her in the end.:-)

End of an Era
The Salvation: Unmasked is an unexpected end to a series that has spanned three decades (and technically two centuries!). Written by ghost writers using the name of Aubrey Clark following the firing of LJ Smith, Unmasked finds our characters in their mid-twenties, all grown-up, some happily married, but all finally living without the fear of disaster looming over them as the last enemy has been defeated. Victory came with a cost: Stefan is dead, leaving Damon and Elena to move on without him.Stefan's death wasn't the only price paid earn their victory as Elena now lays dying as a result of Guardian fine print. As her friends scramble to save her, Elena makes a deal with the Guardians that no one else knows about and one that literally changes EVERYTHING.There have been many complaints at the path this book took, discussion on whether it's plot just dismisses everything that came before. Technically, it does. But, at the end of the day this has always been Elena's journey and for this reader I feel this book, more so than any of the others, puts her choices into perspective for Elena, allowing her the rare opportunity to consider those choices and how important they are in the big picture. Ironically, once Elena is given, and taken, this chance her happily ever after presents itself without any of the anguish and what ifs that came before. If you've read this far in the series, I definitely recommend you give this last book a chance.
