I would rather go to an outdoor event and not end up with 20 bright red blotches from mosquito bites all over my legs than care about the slight Pledge like smell for a little while. It seems to be most notable when first applied than it fades. BTW, I have a very heightened sense of smell. If you travel with it, put it in a small zip lock bag for sure. Hasn't discolore any fabric. Bottle did tend to leak s little but probably because I kept in car with fluctuating temps and also got "tossd" around being in golf bag. Compared to 'Mosquito Net' that is no longer made, it's slightly less effective but a lot less tacky feeling; scent is about the same.
