Are the handles solid or hollow

Dear Customer The handle of our camping shovel axe set is hollow and it is made high carbon steel, Very strong and durable.

Is the axe sharp enough to cut wood?

The Axe is very sharp, but it is worthless for cutting wood. The handle is threaded on so constantly unthreads which rolls the axe, twists your wrist and has little effect on the log.

Are the shafts and sectional joints actually strong enough to handle the high stresses of shoveling or the impact of using it as an axe?

Yes, it’s very strong, made out of heavy duty aluminum alloy.

Can extra handle segments be purchased?

It allows for extra extensions but not sure if they can be purchased separately.
