Bicycle Research CT-4, Shimano Splined Freewheel Remover (pre-1985)
This is the Bicycle Research CT-4, also known as the Shimano Splined Freewheel Remover (pre-1985). It sells for $5.95 at BicycleTool but I decided to make the purchase here on Amazon because of how it looks. This freewheel remover tool looks better and is more sturdy compared to the pictures of the Bicycle Research CT-4 at BicycleTool. This remover tool has 12 teeth and is measured at 20mm in diameter. I have a classic Schwinn Le Tour and I was able to remove the freewheel off of it. I didn't know that the Park Tools FR-1 won't fit. I originally bought the FR-1 to do the job, but turns out the FR-1 was slightly larger that what I needed it for. I like this remover tool, but I don't like the price. It is expensive at $15.25. But here's the thing, without this tool, I wouldn't be able to remove the flywheel. It is hard to search for this tool on Amazon. I would recommend the seller to rename it to something else so that people can find them easier. "Shimano Splined Freewheel Remover (pre-1985)" perhaps.

New, in factory packaging.
Yes it did, these tools are like a go/no go gauge, either they work or they don't. I took some careful measurements and observations to make sure I was ordering the correct tool. Good quality, should outlast me.

quick ship on this hard to find tool
Shipping was incredibly fast on this, arriving much before expected timeframe.Tool works great - hard to find tool for early Shimano ( I ordered to remove the infamous 'front freewheel' system off my Schwinn Suburban ).No problems, fits well and a great addition to my tool inventory.

took a chance and it did the job
The product description for this tool is maddeningly sparse, indicating only that it works on "older" Shimano freewheels. For the record this tool has 12 teeth and is 3/4" across (from tooth to tooth). It worked fine on a 1974 vintage Shimano '303' freewheel.

Essential tool for vintage bike repair
Just what you need to get that pre-1985 Shimano or older Falcon freewheel off. This was a great find because the tools for removing these particular older freewheels are hard to find.

Great fit for older 1970/80 cassettes
Excellent addition to any cyclists tool kit. Used this on the old school five speed shimano cassette on my 1976 Dawes Galaxy. Fitted perfectly and made it an easy job. This tool is for the older cassette units which have a slightly smaller spline than modern ones.
