reasonable marker in still water
This is a good, easy to use marker in relatively still water. Where there is a light to fair amount of chop, like in Tampa Bay, combined with a little current movement, the design does not work too well. The buoy is weighted on the line, and also has loose weights in the barbell. The idea is that the weighted line will spin the barbell, peeling off enough line to get to the bottom. Then it will stop because of the resistance of the free moving weights in the barbells (which cause the buoy to "self-level" with the weights resting on the bottom). If a little wave action comes along, the buoy will likely still hold bottom, and instead just peel off a little more line. No problem in still water... the buoy will still be close to mark. But if there's some current, the line will peel off, pull taught in the direction of the current, peel off some more with the next wave, pull taught, etc etc. So it will effectively appear to drift with the current until all the line runes out. To make it more usable in these conditions, you'd have to let it spool off manually to the bottom, spool of a few more feet to account for the waves/swells, then clamp (rubber band) the remaining line to the buoy so it won't spool off any more.

These are awesome for fishing!
Get a strong series of strikes fishing one day and want to be right on them in the morning? Using a fish finder and want to tag a few holes worth moving back and forth between? These give you those options at an affordable price and are easy to see across the lake or reservoir. Way worth it for any boaters out there, and also a marker for if you drop something and want to come back with resources to retrieve.

Weight broke when snagged on first time use
I used this for the first time during a kayak training as it works perfectly for being a marker to paddle around; however, when I went to retrieve it out of the water, the metal weight snagged on something in the water, and the line snapped... It would be nice to have a couple extra weights come with these since it snapped on the first time use.

Great marker kit, extremely user friendly
Amazing markers for the price. Upon receiving them, I inspected them for physical damage or blemishes, absolutely none. My only gripe was that the marker bracket/holder didn't come with mounting screws which is not a deal breaker to rate it lower than 5. I've used these on a few occassions already to mark points on the water and they do their intended job.

It works....
pretty good item for the price.... we used these to mark dive sites while out spearfishing. I replaced the line as soon as I got them because it seemed very thin and I also replaced the lead weight with a 2 lb. lead dive weight to be sure the marker didn't drage the weight along the bottom. I did notice the buoy would continue to spool off line in rough seas (2-3' waves) and this caused us to have to circle back and loop the line to prevent additional line from coming off the spool. Worked well for what we needed... hit our dive site every time.

Simply, Organized, Clean
Installed these below my day box on my 06 Skeeter. I believe it is a must have for any fisherman that doesn't have the latest and greatest GPS guided trolling motor and fish finders. Still would recommend them even then for redundancy. The pouches also have weep holes on the bottom of each holster to allow drainage.

Comes with a tan colored rack.
All the description picks show a dark colored rack, mine came with a tan colored one. The dark one would have been a better fit with the dark carpet in my boat. Hope they work better than they look, if not i’ll Return them.
