Very bright white, as either a desk lamp or used with the magnifying lens. The base is perfectly weighted, and the head swivels any direction, so just perfect for my hobby needs. I did think the focal length would be a little longer, but seems like it's around 5" - 6", which is just fine for me also. The 2.25X lens gives even magnification and has no distorted or uneven areas (actually 4-3/4" diameter). Pretty much everything I wanted in a hobby magnifier. Simpler and easier than the clamp-on style too. Glad I picked this one after several long hours of searching and reading reviews. For its' nice design, good build quality, ease of use, and fair price, I'd highly recommend.. :-) . PS: I still don't understand why the Verilux version is $60.00 more. These LEDs are the perfect color for high contrast. The magnifying lens is about as powerful as you are going to find, really easy to use and extremely clear.
