Meteorite: Nature and Culture (Earth)

A Gem Of A Book
Packed with amazing details, from the story of the world's biggest meteorite crater in Siberia to the woman whose Chevy was crushed by a meteorite and now tours the museums of the world as an "impactifact," this gem of a book by Egyptian-based ( but New Jersey-born), Maria Golia, weaves together the history, myth and science of meteorites. I knew nothing about them before I read it, and came away amazed and enchanted. Meteorites helped us understand the age of the cosmos, were used by writers from Shakespeare to Saint Exupery as magical omens; and in many ways made life itself possible, by bringing essential elements like nickel, carbon and even amino acids to earth. As she says, asteroids remind us that Earth is our home, but Earth's home is space.

Meteorite

A history of human's perception to meteorite falls
With Maria Golia you are drawn into a clever and intriguing account of meteorite falls around the globe and how people's perception of these events changed over time. A super interesting read.A question lingers: how aware are we, and do we want to be, of the fragile, exposed position our earth has in space?Wonderfully illustrated, including photomicrographs showing the internal elemental composition of meteorites.
