Quick fun read
I got this audio for a deal buy the book get the audio for 1.99 I love those deals. This was a very interesting listen with spies, mystery, love, a little passion, killers, along with a woman who wants to be a spy but the man she loves doesn’t want her to have anything in it. This is a short fast pace thrilling read. The author leaves nothing out just gives you a fun story with a great plot.Gwyneth has loved Ash since she was a little girl she plans to show him she is all grow up by helping him spy for their government. Her family is very much behind her as she brings Ash to heel in her plans to get him to marry her. Gwyneth is a fun loving, headstrong women who knows what she wants and goes after it. Not much stands in her way not even the man she loves. She does come across as being younger than she is in both the story and by the narration.Ash does love Gwyneth but his isn’t telling her he just needs to get this last job out of the way and his spying days are down. Once this works out he plans to take Gwyneth in hand and making her his wife. What he didn’t plan on was her having plans of her own and getting in his way to go after the people who are trying to kill the prince. He said no you are not she said yes I am and you can’t stop me. After a long talk with her brother who sets him straight on the ways of a woman’s mind he gives in letting her do enough to keep her happy.Things do not always the way we plan as the author throws in a few twist to make the story interesting and keeps a few characters on the toes. Someone will get hurt or even killed before this is over the question is who and how.The narration of Pearl Hewitt was very good. I really didn’t care for her voice of Gwyneth she sounds very young almost childlike. I did enjoy all the other voices. Her tones were even there was no background noise. Her voice is very clear and even which makes this a great listen. You have no trouble knowing who is talking. Her male voices were very nice. There are no breaks in the audio just a clean clear listen. The narrator tones are even you can tell when the character are angry or excited. I really enjoyed it.The author packs a lot into a little time leaving nothing out you are never left guessing as to what has happen or going to happen. I thought the plot was outstanding. She gives you wonderful characters even the ones who are out to kill the prince you have compassion for. There isn’t a character that you do not like. She does throw a little passion in but for the most part it is a pretty clean read. This is the first I have read/listen to by this author and narrator. I look forward to listening to more.

Not a mystery, not a romance
MY RATING5 stars--WOW4 stars--would read again3 stars--was good2 stars--didn't enjoy1 star--didn't finishShould I read books before this one: noCliffhanger: noSUMMARYGwyneth and Amelia are at a ball. Amelia designed Gwyneth's dress. This season, she's already declined 5 men, but it's Viscount Ashworth she wants. She's loved him since she was 10yo. Forbidden by some unwritten gentleman’s code, Ash considered her off limits. She wasn’t sure if it was the age difference of eight years, his rakish past, or her position as his best friend’s younger sister. Amelia and she had become close since Henrietta, Amelia’s best friend, had married Gwyneth’s brother, Cord. Rumors are Ash seeks alliance with a French widow. Amelia commiserates with Gwyneth because she has been waiting for Michael, Henrietta's brother, for years, too. Gwyneth has decided to go to a Christmas house party to get away from Cord and Henrietta being so happy. Amelia and her brothers will be there. French widow Lady Charolois is going to the same house party. Ash is, too.Ash desires Gwyneth. He invites her to walk. He can't let anyone know how he feels about her until he breaks this ring of spies. She tells him she's kissed other men. He'd assumed that, when he was done with spying, she'd be his. He forbids her from going to the party. He kisses her, their first.Gwyneth asks Aunt Euphemia for help being a spy so Ash loves her for her skills as well as beauty and being wonderful. The next day, Ash waits at the office for Cord, head of British secret intelligence. Cord announces he's to be a father. Ash feels his best friend pulling away. Ash tells Cord he doesn't want Gwyneth at the party because his intelligence says there's to be an attack on Prinny's life there. “Your aunt, the foremost spy in our business, thinks Gwyneth should be involved in a clandestine operation?” “My aunt, like me, thinks it will be a mistake to have Gwyneth working on her own, trying to prove to you that she can be helpful. My aunt believes if you’re there to guide Gwyneth, she won’t rush into danger. It’s safer to make her an ally and work with her, instead of leaving her to go off alone.” Ash refuses. “Well, I have it on the best authority, that of my wife and my aunt, that unless you include Gwyneth in your work, you’ll lose her.”EVALUATIONThe motive wasn't clearly explained until the epilog, when the author gives us a history lesson. The conservatory scene makes no sense logistically. There's no code breaking, no real spying, no real intrigue. Ash and Gwyneth have already decided on each other, and there's no wooing because they've known each other since childhood. All in all, this is a disappointing read.RECOMMENDATIONRead Regina Scott's My True Love Gave to Me. It's a solid Regency Christmas romance with a little intrigue.FAVORITE QUOTESHe leaned toward her in an intimate way, his shoulders and head bent to her as if she were the sun and he a flower. [I like the imagery]POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (SPOILERS)Sex: a little pettingLanguage: 0 f***, 8 Lord's name in vain, 0 s***Violence: poisoning, assault, gunshotCRITIQUE (SPOILERS)Why would Brunton follow Gwyneth to the conservatory and try to get the flowers then? That's insane.
