Great for Mixed breed long/haired dogs
This blade is great for mixed breed long/haired dogs. I have a Rottweiler/Poodle/Australian Shepherd mix. His fur varies throughout his body from Rottweiler-short to Australian Shepherd-thick-and-long. To get an idea of his coat he is sometimes confused with a Newfoundland mix, a black Golden Retriever, or a Wire-Haired Lab, although his hair is very soft, not wiry.I like to shave him down in the winter to keep his coat short without going to the skin since we live in a region where temperatures can go from in the 50s to below zero in the span of a couple of days. This blade gives a bit of a shaggy look on his fur, but even if the cut is uneven you can’t really tell, so if you’re a beginner this would be a good blade to use. The blade stays very cool, unlike the #10, which is nearly always too hot. I had a little trouble with the blade when I first put it on because it wasn’t moving, and therefore not cutting. This was easily solved by tightening the screws on the blade head. After that, the cut went very fast, I think it probably took a half-hour to shave him (it usually takes an hour with his full coat).

Excellent blade and clipper (A5) which I bought at the ...
Excellent blade and clipper (A5) which I bought at the same time. Quiet, powerful and so much more efficient than the many cheap $40 clippers I have bought in the past. They are a bit heavy though and get hot quickly. Take a short break to clean and lubricate them often. Switch is easy to throw with a flick of your thumb. I couldn't figure out how to take off the original blade on the clipper and put on the 3F for a longer cut. I am not very mechanical so I called the Oster customer service and they walked me through it very quickly. It isn't described well in the paper insert. I also expected longer fur than the 3F blade delivered. That Is my mistake and I'll order another blade as well. I have a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle so their hair types are very different. The cocker is much easier to clip. Make sure to brush all poodle curls out first or clip them roughly with scissors and the clippers will be much faster. My poodle was tangled.
