Bernedoodles: A Head to Tail Guide

It’s okay
I was looking forward to this book as I was getting a Bernedoodle. Overall, it’s okay for being the first edition, probably without publishing company. However, the book provided little to no value. It’s good if you are planning to buy a dog from her to understand how she breeds them and matches applicants with a dog. If you are buying yours elsewhere, you can find whatever was of value online. The unbiased info I had already read it before through various blogs. It’s full of repetitive testimonials and it feels more like the corresponding section on a website: plain advertising. Also, the training advice is old school.SUGGESTIONS: For the next edition: include a table of content, remove the ”I do, how I breed, I, I, I...” for simple language that could be applicable to other breeders. How to select the breeder and really how to care for your Bernedoodle regarless how you got it.Thanks for intentionally cross-breeding a Bernese and Poodle so other could follow suit making the amazing Bernedoodle accesible to more and more people.

COMPLETE guide!
I'm so glad I made this purchase, I appreciated so many aspects of this book. Amazing thought and effort poured into this! I must admit, in the beginning, I had little expectations-I thought this book would be a plug for her own Swiss Ridge Kennels, but NO! While she does touch on her contributions to this breed- how she's working to bring about the healthiest, family friendly BD she can offer-(I think any responsible breeder would!) The book strongly focuses on the breed itself. She put her very heart into this book and it shows! Very informative about THIS breed. She gives her professional insight on a personal level. Information includes Bernedoodle history, the role of genetics, range of colors, coat texture/types, training, vaccinations, feeding, detailed care!, even a diagram for grooming! Hot topics include her answers to questions that many owners may have, she even shares owner's thoughts and experiences! The most delightful highlight of the book is the beautiful pictures of Bernedoodles throughout. Each dog so unique it's just fascinating! ***No matter which REPUTABLE breeder you purchase your BD from*** This book will serve as a valuable source.

Straight forward information on Bernedoodles
We are considering investing (these dogs cost a small fortune) in a new family pet and a Bernedoodle is on our short list. The book is authored by a breeder of these dogs (and multiple other hybrids) and her passion for the breed is obvious and I assume intentional. The reader will get a better understanding of the importance of genetics in every aspect of the breeding program (yes - medical conditions are important but also temperament, stubbornness, intelligence, markings ...) as well as a comprehensive picture of the training that will be necessary to raise a great dog. (spoiler alert - like any puppy - a lot of effort is required). Will there be any "aha" moments for the reader? If you've done a thorough review of SwissRidge website the answer is most likely - no. All the same if a reader is thinking of adding a Bernedoodle to their family, the book is an easy read with good advice in regards to the training effort needed while providing critical knowledge to help the reader understand the importance of selecting the correct breeder (just as much as selecting the correct breed).Considering the size of investment in both money and time for this new family member this book should be mandatory reading for any perspective owner.

Nothing in life is free
It is true, this book strongly promotes SwissRidge Kennels and their Bernedoodles. Nevertheless there is some terrific information which will help you welcome a new puppy into your home. And your puppy need not be a Bernedoodle to benefit. Crate training and the NILF (nothing in life is free) method for establishing your your alpha status were especially relevant subjects for me and my puppy. The detail provided is marvelous. Am planning to post the book's crate training schedule on my wall for easy reference. This is a smaller, well written book that is dense in its content, with plenty of great advice covering many if not most common puppy related topics. Highly recommend.

Must have Bernedoodle book!
All Bernedoodle families should have this book! It's jam packed with useful information, from easy to follow instructions, to relatable stories that make any Bernedoodle owner smile and think "Yup, our Berne does that too!" Sherry does a great job of breaking down every detail in a way that is not only informational but truly enjoyable to read. Which is a big deal since many dog "guides" tend to be dry and very formal. I enjoy having a breed book that was more along the lines of reading a family book that is also useful.Sherry Rupke....if you read this review, know I'm hoping you write another book!

My new bible for our soon to arrive Bernedoodle
My husband and I have read this twice so far, and am sure we will refer back to it many a time, as we will be receiving our first large dog, one of Sherry's standard Bernedoodles later this month. Having always owned toy dogs, and not being familiar with Bernese MD, nor poodles, in relation to breed characteristics, temperament or care.....It has proved of utmost value in preparing for arrival, learning how Swiss Ridge Kennels has prepared the pups prior to adoption and what we will need to have on hand, and do, upon receiving our treasure. The book hit, on the mark, all of the many questions we have, without having to call and ask about having a large dog in the family, and the transition of melding into our existing human and small canine family. Though a bible for explaining the Bernedoodle breed, the book would have prepared me for adopting most any breed & how to successfully prepare for, and raise, our new family member without the trial and error of guessing through "puppydom". A well written, straight and to the point training manual for the soon to be parents! Kudos.

Good book left me wanting more
I liked the book but felt it was am ad for her breeding. I felt like so much was left out. I will find another book to fill in the blanks and not try to sell me on her dogs.

Gave me a clear vision of what to expect of the life with a Bernedoodle.
Very good book. As a person who didn't have a dog since I was a child, I find this book very helpful. It allows me to understand what changed in the approach of having a dog now, what exactly I can expect from my future Bernedoodle and the most important - to understand if the breed is really good for my family. I would recommend this book if you are considering bringing a Bernedoodle to your home regardless of your experience as a dog lover/owner.The book itself is printed on a high quality paper and it feels very nice to hold.

A really helpful learning tool!!
This is a must-have book for anyone considering a Bernedoodle. We just recently were fortunate enough to have purchased an Aussie Bernedoodle from SwissRidge Kennels. Sherry's book in a manual on what to expect and what to do. Love the puppy and the book!

great book. couldn't put it down
After reading this book I am a new convert. The care, knowledge and love Sherry puts into her program clearly not only sets Swissridge apart but this book also imparts knowledge I have not come across before. I owned a poodlecross for 17yrs before he passed, wished I had read this book before. But I now feel better equipped for my new best bud or princess later this year.
