Essential Tool For Anyone With Carpet - Professional Tool - Professional Results!
When I bought my house the seller installed new but very cheap carpet. It's the type of carpet that can be cut at Home Depot on giant rolls in the back of the store. It's medium cut pile that goes flat quickly after vacuuming and mats easily. I take very good care of it but despite my best efforts, it just looked terrible. About a year ago, I somehow stumbled upon this awesome tool. I had never heard of a carpet rake but I wish I would have known about one years ago! I quickly ordered one and did some research on the manufacturer and their products. I was surprised to find out that this is the same identical tool used by carpet cleaning companies. They use it to un-mat before shampooing and to agitate cleaning solutions deep into the fibers. Finally they lift the carpet after cleaning to aid in drying and for a neat professional clean appearance. The rake came in a long slender box and is very easy to assemble. Remove the two nuts attached to the head, attach the handle, screw the nuts on and tighten with a crescent wrench. Go here for assembly instructions: http://groomindustries.com/images/Grand_Groom_Carpet_Rake_Assembly_Instructions.pdf It's just as easy to use; apply light to medium pressure and pull against the nap to lift the fibers. I usually rake an area a few times in different directions and this does a great job in bringing life back to the carpet. I find it especially useful for hallways and areas that limits the direction your able to vacuum. I use the rake to to lift the nap from side to side like in a hallway that you cannot do with your vacuum. I also use it when I shampoo in the same way the professionals do and naturally it does a great job! I would like to note that this is a carpet "rake" and is designed for medium to high pile carpet. The flexible but sturdy tines will not fray when used with this type. If you have a shorter pile such as berber, you do not want to use a carpet rake. For this type you want the Grandi Groom Carpet Brush which is also available on Amazon. Made in the USA - Groom Industries could manufacture this rake overseas like so many other companies do and make substantially more profit but chooses not to. I'm always glad to see "Made in the USA" and when a company puts people over profits, I feel the need to mention it. Bottom Line - I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get the most from their carpet and to keep it looking it's best. I'm really surprised they don't sell these alongside vacuums and carpet cleaners. Personally I feel this is a must have and essential tool for those who appreciate great looking carpet!

Grandma Loves this
My grandma hates the feet print in her carpet. She loves raking it. The rake does a great job of pulling up dog hair and misc. Items lodged in the carpet. When you think your carpet is clean, rake it and find out! Easy to use, does a great job.

It really works BUT.......
The rake works very well but, I must warn you, it was quite a workout for this 67 year old woman. Holy moley! Thank goodness I don't have a lot of carpets to do. The first photo I took after just a few swipes across my rug and left an area to show what it looked like before I started. The pile had already been lifted a bit before I started because I vacuumed it yesterday, however. The second photo is after a complete raking in various directions and then vacuuming. I don't think this rug had "track marks" when it was new but it was 2 years ago so maybe it did and I just don't remember it but I'm still impressed. It sure beats doing it on my hands and knees with a stiff brush which has been my usual method over the years. A complete intense raking of this 5x9 rug took less than 5 minutes. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it's difficult to tighten the bolts that connect the rake head to the handle because the screws that hold the head in place keep spinning around when trying to tighten the nuts on the back. If they were slotted or Philips head screws so you'd have something to hold them still while tightening the nuts it would be much better. The photo of the rake head shows those smooth topped screws. The rake head is as tightly attached as I can get it to be and it still slides around; I am completely unable to tighten the bolts down well enough to keep the head of the rake solidly stable on the handle while raking. Looks like a trip to Home Depot or Lowes for some type of replacement screw is in order. For the price paid for this rake, I shouldn't have to do that.

Great for longer carpets – perfect for 'short shag' – doubtful for pet hair
Just did a major cleaning of our badly soiled carpet throughout the house, and this rake was a standout. Extremely useful for scrubbing in pre-spray for stains, and for a final pass after the extractor was done. It also comes in handy of you apply Scotchguard or any other protective agent. You can push it and pull it in a scrubbing action – the rake is light but well made so it will easily handle this type of action. I'm not sure it would be of much help for short-nap carpet, and I dont think it would work at all to remove pet hair. But it's perfect for grooming anything with visible fibers – we have 'short shag' in our house, and it was perfect for that EDIT: this is the perfect tool for combing in wet cleansers like sodium percarbonate or a dry cleaner like Capture. I recently decided to go all-out on pet stains that were almost a decade old and had been steam-cleaned twice (once by me with a commercial steamer and once by a commercial service with a bigger steamer). I used a sodium percarbonate solution this time, and also used this rake, a simple garden watering jug and a wet/dry vac. I finished off with the Capture product. The results were astounding, and removed the decade-old stains (and odor)... I’m not kidding, this old guy was almost moved to tears. I assumed we would have to replace the carpet, but it truly looks like new. Any project this intense requires attention to details... your type of carpet, your type of stain, your approach and your ability to follow instructions. This rake was ESSENTIAL in getting the sodium percarbonate (the active ingredient in Oxi-Clean, which did 95% of the work) and the Capture (the perfect finish and maintenance product) into the depths of our short shag carpet. It was an absolutely perfect tool for this effort... not sure about Berber, long shag, or things like Persian rugs, but the teeth are stiff durable plastic and they don’t harm the carpet. It is far superior to the bathroom-style bristle brush that comes with some Capture kits, which WILL damage (shred) your carpet – that’s the wrong tool. This is a true comb and perfect for getting cleansers into the fibers without damage. An essential tool IMO if you have carpet. It really doesn’t remove anything like dog hair (unless you have a very long-haired dog I suppose)... it’s a loose comb that’s perfect for raising fiber or distributing cleaners among the fibers. I love this tool.

Professional Quality at a Fair Price
Grandi Groom engineered an excellent maintenance tool. Its design, materials, and finish are all first class. It arrived in perfect condition in a secure box, and was easily assembled. This rake seemed a reasonable investment since my carpets were just professionally re-cleaned after three years. That company raked before and after their cleaning process. What a difference... Now that I have a quality rake, I understand its importance. Pre-cleaning, it lifts the carpet's synthetic short pile allowing the vacuum to get at all the loosened dirt. Between professional cleanings, it rejuvenates the fibers so they don't look anything like their age [22 years in my case]. I think this small maintenance investment, and scheduled pro cleaning, will add many years to the life of my aged carpeting.

It’s easy to use and it works!
This actually works. I’m 75 and it was easy to assemble. I did not clean the rug, it was very matted down, so just used the Grandi rake. See Before and After pics.

Heavy Duty Push Broom is FAR better for pet hair in carpet.
This is the most honest review I might have ever written. I would somewhat like to return this, but I can't admit I was wrong about it to my wife. I went back and forth for months on whether or not I should buy this and what it could do for us, I bought it hoping to pull additional pet hair out of the carpet. If you vaccuum on a normal basis (I do at least every 2 weeks) and you are somewhat diligent about keeping pet hair off your carpet, this product is probably not gonna do anything for you. If you are getting it because you want to fluff up your carpet, or make it lay a certain way, it works great! If you have pet hair or anything else deep in your carpet, go buy a heavy duty push broom, lay it on your carpet and pull instead of push, it works SO MUCH BETTER than this product.

This is the one you Want!
There are all kinds of different carpet rakes out there. Some look like yard rakes, others try more of a squeegee approach to pulling up pet hair so it can easily be vacuumed. However, this product with its dual row of firm plastic bristles is what we bought based on what we saw our carpet installers as well as carpet cleaners use. Not only does it leave that neat, combed appearance, you literally see the rake pulling pet hair up where it had matted deep in the pile. Excellent product and really adds to the "presentation" of the home.
