Good food for cat
I love this product. My cat likes this product. The smell of it is nothing pungent, it’s really not that bad. The ease of use because I luckily got the bag that has a resealable port before they did the switch is very good. I unfortunately ordered it way too late because they switched the design of the bag and now I wish I can find more of the resealable. I cannot attest to the coat shine as her coat has always looked good. The value of money is great for this as I told my Vet this is what I’m feeding my cat and I got a look of approval. I have no clue how it tastes since I do not eat it, but it does not upset her stomach. The longevity of it in the resealable bag design is perfect, I can provide no input for the new design that is not resealable and I do not like it. I still wish they had the old design as I just found this for my cat but I’m happy I at least got the one bag. So now when I get a new bag, I just pour it in the resealable one.

Solved Cat's Allergy Issues
Corn, wheat, and soy-FREE. One of my cats had chronic "gut issues", pain and bloating etc on various other common cat kibble food. I tried several different ones but this Nutro kibble (salmon blend) finally worked for us. And all the cats eat it.

Worth Every Penny - Try This!
Hopefully I will be able to video our cats reacting to this food because it was 100% favorable. So much so that they behave like it is a royal treat. One of our cats literally climbs up on top of the table when he sees me setting the bag on the table to open it (don't worry; I disinfect the table afterwards haha). They have been eating the same grain-free food from another brand for 7 years and they certainly seemed to be OK with eating it. For all those years we had thought it was a sensible choice; HOWEVER, we had noticed in the past months that their health was not as robust as it had been nor should be, considering their lifestyle and environment. We take good care of them, they get plenty of fresh pure water, fresh grass outside to chew on, fresh air, lots of love. We started thinking: 'we've eliminated every other possible cause of the issues we were seeing; the only thing left is the food!'SO, we took the leap and searched for another brand and chose NUTRO WHOLESOME ESSENTIALS for its reviews, the ingredients I read about, and the price (had to be within our budget). The price, per pound, is definitely higher than the previous brand we were purchasing. With that said, so far the benefits it has had so far with our two cats is noticeable. Their response to it is dramatic!Their fur and skin is glossier. Our one cat was having a LOT of skin irritation where he was rubbing on all kinds of things excessively on a daily basis and scratching constantly at his face and ears to where he was raw and/or bloodied. His eyes were affected. I FINALLY thought maybe it was their old food? Our other cat had a lot of dandruff previously. So, to anybody who is taking the time to read this lengthy review: You might think we're kind of dummies that we didn't even think about their food being a problem. That's OK because we felt rather silly ourselves that we had not thought of food first! But sometimes we simply overlook the most obvious. We both HIGHLY recommend this food and if our cats could speak we believe they would concur.Although we are paying more for our cats' food it is so worth it!And one thing that occurred to me is that because it is more nutritionally dense than their 'old' food - we can actually feed them a little bit less because they are getting more out of the amount they are consuming. They are now flourishing as we always had wanted for them.VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMERS HERE!

much better choices out there
i was concerned cats would not eat replacement i chose for the discontinued max cat in similar salmon flavor. thus far (first bag) cats seem to tolerate the substitution. four year old female has begun to regurgitate more times per month than she did on original max cat. don't know if that is a reaction to this food, aging, or something else.update: research via pet food review sites --where manufacturer is not paying for the blurb or allowed to otherwise influence content-- i learned that nutro pet food rated poorly. highest mark was grade "c". i taught college level human nutrition for 35 years. my cats nutritional needs are given as much attention as my family. grade "c" is not good enough.

Great for us, but note it contains chicken
We switched to this food recently, after 10+ years on another brand that became harder and harder to find in stock. The other food used only fish for protein, which we needed because we had a cat who was allergic to meats like chicken and beef. That cat passed away a few years ago, but we kept feeding the salmon-based food because we figured why mess with a good thing?Picking a new food was tough, but this seemed to have a solid combo of good reviews, trusted name, and good quality without a $$$ price tag. I stuck with salmon because that was the base of their old food and I figured they were used to the flavor. Our 3 cats, who range in age from 1 year to 17 years old, all seem to like the new food. We’re on our second bag, and no troubles with the switch. As a bonus, the young cat’s fur has grown extra shiny and soft and the middle aged cat seems to have become more active. Both were an unexpected bonus, considering that this is cheaper than the old brand! My only warning is that chicken meal is the #2 ingredient in this food. The bag says “salmon” and boasts that “salmon is the #1 ingredient,” and you need to check the actual ingredients to notice the chicken. They’re not wrong that salmon IS the biggest ingredient, but #2 is still enough chicken that allergic cats would probably have a bad reaction. Just wanted highlight the issue for anyone in that situation. (And if you have a cat who throws up more often than s/he should, it’s worth trying to switch their food to something without chicken or beef. Our vet said the meat allergies are more common than you’d think, and switching foods took care of most of the problem for us.)
