Cinderella

a different version
This version of cinderella has balls on 2 consecutive nights, and she is dressed in golden yellow. My girls are arguing that there is only 1 ball and that her dress should be blue. This was on a suggested reading for our 1st grader. The benefit is that there can be different versions to a fairy tale. I don't recommend.

The Original Cinderella Story
I chose this book for my granddaughter based on other reviews because it was said to be a translation of the original story that was written by a French author. The illustrations are excellent except for one thing - Cinderella does not look "one thousand times more beautiful" than her ugly stepsisters in the illustrations. Might this teach a young girl that beauty may lie in what one wears? Although the story contained a few words (such as "wicked") I had to explain to my four year old granddaughter, she told me she liked it.

More CInderella
I love Cinderella stories and each year it seems my students share the love. They get a kick out of the many different versions available now. This one is the classic of classics.

Fab!!
Beautiful pictures and an enchanting story - I used this as part of talk for writing (KS1) and the children loved it. So good to get away from Disney versions of these stories!A great book that the children ask to read over and over!

Disappointing
I was looking for a non Disney, traditional version of this fairy tale, but this one is over complicated and too long for my 4 year old and I don't particularly like the emphasis on physical beauty, which I know is part of the story but I think it could be clearer that the ugly stepsisters are ugly in personality and that Cinderella is kind hearted. I was not over keen on the illustrations either. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I would like a traditional and yet relevant version of Cinderella to read to my daughter. Maybe such a thing does not exist!
