The outer padding had come off, exposing the internal components and letting moisture in, which caused further damage. Replacing the entire key fob was going to cost over $200, so I looked for a more affordable solution and decided to try replacing just the outer casing.After some research, I ordered this key fob shell replacement. Once it arrived, the swap was quick and easy—I simply transferred the internal parts from my old key fob into the new shell and reassembled it. I also replaced the battery so everything would be fresh.The new shell works great overall, except for the lock button. I realized that with the old casing so worn down, I must’ve damaged the contact point inside, so the lock function no longer engages electronically. I now lock my car manually, but considering the savings, I can live with that.If you're dealing with a worn-out key fob and want a budget-friendly alternative, I definitely recommend this. Just keep in mind that if the internal components are already damaged, some buttons might not function perfectly. Needed replacement fobs due to the buttons being worn and exposed on my dealer fobs. I took out the inner components of the old key fobs carefully and put them in the new cases. The mobile lock smith wanted $250 for two new fobs to be programmed with no key needing to be cut with the dealership wanting $350. That's ridiculous! Saved $225-$325 using the cheap Amazon fobs. I've been using the new fobs over a year now. Only issue I'd point out is that one of the fobs battery dies regularly--like every 3 weeks it needs the battery replaced, which was not the case in the old fob. The other one works like normal, so I use that one primarily and the other is a back-up due to the battery thing.
