Q: Can this be used on merino wool?

I’m using it on cotton it fades a lot I expect same would be true for wool. I love the set am having fun playing with the colors the fading is good with me. Color quality is fantastic.

Q: How permanent is the finished look on shirts?

On a silk or acrylic garment this is a very permanent dye, but on cotton it tends to bleed. This dye will work on cotton, but if you want a permanent dye for your standard t-shirt, procion MX is the dye to use. Basic dyes are for leather, acrylic, wood and silk.

Q: How much is in each bottle?

It's about 1/2 oz ~14 grams. basic dyes are stronger than other dyes. 2-3% weight of the fabric gives you a deep color on acrylic or silk. One bottle is enough to dye 2 lbs deeply and probably 10lb a lighter version of the color.

Q: Does this dye require any additional products to work on leather?

There are 2 ways to use this dye. You can mix with water and add a little vinegar or, you can mix it with either isopropyl or ethyl alcohol. Ethanol works better than isopropyl in the sense that the dyes are more soluble in ethanol, so you can get a darker color. For leather I do recommend wiping it down with basic dye in ethanol because then you don't have to even get the leather wet with water at all. If you have a harder leather, it is not a big deal, but for soft leathers and suede, it seems better to use alcohol to preserve the shape better. So, yes having an alcohol or white vinegar is good to have for use with this dye.
