For taking basic nav course, could this be used instead of the standard par. rulers/divider/prot? iow, could i take base course using this? thanks

I would use this as an adjunct. You need to know how to use parallel ruler, dividers etc on a map for the navigation course.

What is the maximum distance between the 2 rulers, commonly called the opening width? Thanks!
