The Good-The Bad-and the Ugly!
I purchased the Denon AVR-X1300W from HiDEF Lifestyle - Amazon Marketplace. Delivery was 1 day late, but no reflection on the seller, since amazon is responsible. My 10 year old AVR-988 decided to start distorting the center channel, and estimates didn't justify repair.I have had good luck with other Denon products, and liked The Audyssey EQ XT so decided to go for a mid-priced model from their lineup. My timing was good, as the 216 models were on sale, and there was no real improvements to the 2017's, as HEOS is not important to mee, so I opted for the X1300.The Good:Very easy setup with the setup wizard, and GUI. The old AVR-988 was a nightmare! The X1300 has the Audyssey Dynamic EQ & Volume, which were introduced the year after the AVR-988, so I was happy to have these features. The bluetooth, and NAS playback are also worth mention.I also enjoy using the Denon Remote App on my smartphone, but spend more time with my good old faithful Harmony One.I could spend an hour describing how I had to reprogram my Harmony, but that's another story! The overall sound quality is excellent, so that's worth the 4 stars. The Bad:OK, I get it, this is a mid-priced receiver, but come on..1 line display on the receiver, so no information on-screen using OTA forTV broadcasts.- NO switched A/C outlets!Ouch!People say to buy a smart power switch, but the price of this unit should include at least one switched outlet.Cheap, huh? Also be aware that this receiver does not do analog video to HDMI upscaling, so if you still have a VCR, or legacy device, the Video out is just a bridge. The Ugly:You may say I only have myself to blame, but it never dawned on me to check for this in the specs, and to assume makes an ....but this just went over my head!THERE ARE ZERO, YES ZERO AUDIO OUTPUTS!!This was a shocker, and almost a dealbreaker for me, because, I have hearing loss, and wished to connect my Oticon TV Streamer to an optical, or at least an anolog out, but NO!!I checked the manual,. which is really really bad.. and even phoned Denon support for advice, but of course they had nothing.I could try a Zone 2 Pre-Out power amp (more $$), or a HDMI out splitter with an optical audio out converter, but it just is not worth the trouble to have to kludge all these pieces for something so elemental! At least with Dynamic Volume, and a custom program in my hearing aids, I can hear the dialog quite well, so I'll live with it.Oticon will be coming out with a bluetooth device called the ConnectClip , which has a mike that can be placed in front of the center channel, so that will be a big improvement with my hearing aids.So there you have it, just like the movie: The Good The Bad, and The Ugly.Bottom line is, I accept the shortcomings, and praise the features, and am satisfied enough to give the AVR-X1300W the 4 gold stars.

.System is good but not for the technically profecient
Denon system had a number of features that are very useful. Clearly their engineers are listening to their customers as they improve the product from year to year. The remote control is crammed with buttons -- too small to be useful for adults with average sized hands. The technical support sucks. I received incorrect information two out of three times I called.. I almost returned the unit but decided to do some web searches and tried a new approach -- completely factory reset and then a setup process. It worked but I am very disappointed in the Denon CSR folks. If you are technically proficient and astute and persistent then this is a good unit. If you are 'average then' buy buy some other unit that has better technical support.

Premier Audio Video NOT authorized seller of Denon, This VOIDS WARRANTY.
The people who sold this unit to me Premier audio video aren’t authorized resellers of Denon. There is no warranty on Denon if not bought from an authorized reseller. Less than a year from purchase Receiver just started shutting down. We first replaced all wires and speakers thinking it was that. After we replaced all of that it keeps doing same thing. We ended up pulling out every wire input we had in the receiver and it still keep shutting down after a second. So if you are buying a Denon or anything else ALWAYS check the manufacturer website to ensure you are buying from authorized seller. Under Premier audio video returns it is obvious they refer you to the manufacturer. Read the return policy carefully cause when you have issues you can’t send it back to Denon since they aren’t Denon authorized sellers! And WHY did it even stop working less than a year from purchase is my question. Denon and Best Buy will tell you this shouldn’t happen IF you are buying it brand new and from an authorized seller! They can’t guarantee authenticity if you don’t buy from an authorized seller. I bought this under the “New” category, now I question if it was new and maybe this was just a used unit kept in great condition. I mean most people keep their receivers in a secure place, like entertainment center. Appearance wise, this unit still looks brand new today and I have had it a year!

I previously switched audio and video separately and it is a joy (most of the time) to have an integrated system
An incredible value considering where technology has progressed in just the last 5 years. I previously switched audio and video separately and it is a joy (most of the time) to have an integrated system. The setup was easy (read the quick setup info). You don't have to do everything initially but I made sure that I had a reliable Ethernet connection so that the software update went smoothly. More than enough power for a small to medium room with reasonable speakers. Make no mistake - - there's a lot going on here, audio management, video switching, internet audio, HDCP handshakes. It's helpful to have a basic understanding of modern receiver technology before tackling a more advanced setup than your 2 channel player. So far it's been a great experience.

Good unit for everyday use
I bought this to upgrade from an old unit I had, so that I could listen to music via Bluetooth. This is a good unit. Set up is pretty easy. Budget some time to do the speaker calibration - it's worth doing to optimize sound. I didn't know what to expect from an up-to-date receiver, and thought perhaps the onscreen graphics (on the TV I mean, via the interface) might have been fancier. But I don't really care. This is a good budget receiver. Bluetooth can be a bit wonky from time to time, but I can't really fault the receiver for that - it could be the smartphone I'm streaming from as well. All you have to do is restart Bluetooth on your device - i.e. smartphone - and it starts working well again. All in al you will be happy with this if it's in the category of receiver you are looking at.
