It has a enough overhang so you never fill it too much you can't tie the bag to throw it away. Never torn for me, and I even use it for my fresh produce in the fridge. Rolled up nicely for storing and tears off nicely too. If you have dry hands, the bags might be a bit hard to open, but nothing too bad.
