Age appropriate way to present a difficult topic
This book is GREAT!! I wanted my kids to be prepared for their active shooter drills at school and this book was a great way to present a difficult topic in an age-appropriate way (kids are 4 & 6yr). My daughter loved the book so much that she wanted to bring it to school...her teacher read it to the class, and then passed it around for the other teachers to read, as well.

Very thorough
It stinks that we even have to think about this scenario but as a third grade teacher, this book was perfect to read aloud to my kiddos. It was the catalyst to our morning meeting talk and kept the kids engaged.

Sensitive subject
I like that it introduces a scary topic in a way a child can understand. It’s a shame we have to talk about this type of thing with children. It would have been nice to have when children were taught to duck and cover because of bomb threats.

Excellent book for kids!
While teaching children crisis response goes back 50 years for fire training, it is new in the field of active shooter and terrorism. Julia's book is a how to train manual for our times. After teaching ALICE for the past several years, the book provided a refreshing take for me and can only improve survival and coping skills in young children. My own seven year old read the book and thought it was great! Teaching things that are potentially scary in a very non-scary way for children has been a hallmark of ALICE training from the start. Julia captures the training in a perfect way for children and makes it easy to understand. This book should be required reading in every K-2 classroom in America...and not only for the kids!

Great info but very wordy for younger kids.
The media could not be loaded. My kindergartener was read this book at school and so I wanted to also have a copy here at home. What I liked about this book was how thoroughly it explained ALICE on a younger kiddo’s level. I found it fairly age appropriate for the intended audience (5-11 year olds) but the book obviously contains a lot of information so it gets pretty wordy. Younger readers (5, 6, 7) may have a harder time reading or listening since there is so much text. I appreciated how the authors wove this book together in such an accessible way even though it’s a difficult subject to write about. A school shooter, guns and gun violence is never mentioned. Instead, the book refers to “a dangerous someone” to get the point across. Definitely a good starting place to have these difficult discussions with our kids.

Helps me feel prepared
My child is in kindergarten and due to the gravity of our society, I felt that I needed to somehow prepare him. This book is perfect for that. It communicates preparedness in a way that he understands.

My kid loves it
My kid is 5. She loves it. She hasn't caught on that my voice cracks a bit when I read it. I try to tie it in to her schools plan, but shr also needs it for anywhere else we go.

Great Book for kids
It is unfortunate that we have to even buy these types of books but I am very pleased that it is perfect to bring awareness to our littles.
