Counting Lions Evokes empathy and praise for each animal's peril in the real world.
Amazing drawings evoking the sense and dramatic issues facing each endangered species. Each drawing consumes the reader with its beauty, and the stories behind the drawing share the sense of peril. Can't wait to read it and share with my granddaughter this holiday. Praise worthy editorials and nature and conservation in today's world for survival of these beautiful animals.

Missed opportunity
The artwork is truly amazing and inspiring. I can only give it 4 stars though because I am disappointed that the author and illustrator did not set up a portion of the proceeds of sales of the book to actually go towards conservation organizations and efforts. I would have felt much better about buying it. This is not a typical children's book and falls somewhere in between an adult coffee table book and a children's book. The intent is to educate and they could have set an example towards the conservation of these magnificent animals not only by bringing attention, but by giving themselves. Or at the very least to note places in the book so that those who are reading and getting exposed to the plight of these animals can readily have the information and make it more probably that they would act on their feelings that the book is trying to elicit! Seems like a BIG missed opportunity especially when the whole point of the book is to aid in bringing awareness to the conservation of endangered animals.

This book is beautifully illustrated in black and white drawings of animals
This book is beautifully illustrated in black and white drawings of animals. There is also a nice section at the end of the book describing the animals current status and numbers. Yes children can learn how to count with this book but they will not truly appreciate the artwork at a young age. This is a great book for parents to interact with their child and help him begin to understand the creatures on our planet.

Drawings that look so real, you would think they were photographs.
Absolutely beautiful drawings of wild animals accompanied by a very nice rhyme. I came upon this at our Pre School and when I looked through it,, I had to have a copy for myself.

Beautiful
So beautiful. My 2 year old loves to pet each animal as we read. Only bummer was the gorillas placement on the fold. Giant book. Very nice originality for a children's book. I plan to get another for baby shower.

Story is nice, but by far wins for being so beautiful ...
Stunning book, cannot believe some of these are drawings and not photographs. Story is nice, but by far wins for being so beautiful - we keep it on display and kids like to look at pictures far more often than we actually read it.

Amazing!!!!
Absolutely love this book! The illustrations are stunning - just beautiful. My two and a half year old wants to look at the book again and again and to count the animals. It's completely unique and I think it's going to become a treasured and much-loved book in our family.
