Maglite Solitaire LED Presentation Box Flashlight

Initially I was very impressed with the torch, however, there was a problem when the battery ran out and had to be changed. The battery cap wouldn't unscrew. I contacted Maglite directly, as it was about 8 months old. The American company referred me to the European division, who in turn referred me to the UK distributor. Several emails to the UK distributor resulted in no reply, so I cannot recommend an item this expensive with such a short lifespanUpdate - after 2 months of trying, I finally got a response from the UK distributor. They claimed the cap was stuck due to a battery leak. They said this was my fault, as "batteries shouldn't be left in a torch". They would not accept the torch back to be examined as leaking batteries cannot be posted. There was nothing to suggest the battery had leaked, beyond them saying it was their opinion it would have.

Ever since MagLite "Saw the light" and converted to LED light sources, particularly with the Solitaire, we now have a compact, tough and reliable flashlight that uses a single AAA Energiser battery to give ample light for its size. NEVER use DURACELL batteries, by the way - those "Once-reliable" copper-top batteries USED TO BE Leakproof, but are now Not so. Thoughthat is another story... Back to this most marvellous mini-Maglite, one of the most popular applications for these is accompanying a Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman multi-tool - which is why so many after-market pouches for these indispensable tools, incorporate sleeves or pockets that fit the Solitaire perfectly.

I won't be buying another Maglite. Before I purchased this piece of rubbish, I was under the impression that Maglite had an excellent reputation and backed it up with an equally excellent warranty. After owning the Solitaire for some time with almost no use, I took it out in preparation for a long distance walk only to discover that the light no longer functions correctly. It appears to have a loose connection somewhere. Having looked into the possibility of returning the torch for repair/replacement, I am dismayed to see that it is anything but simple, with various clauses and conditions. Absolute waste of money. Could have picked up a better torch from Poundland.

For me, an ideal keyring sized torch that can certainly do it's job in most basic conditions despite it's small size. The LED lighting has significantly improved light power over the older bulb type Maglite that it is finally replacing. My old Maglite gave good service for a number of years until the recent failure caused by battery leakage inside the casing and since the LED is more durable, I see no reason not to have many years of service from my new torch. Just remember to change the battery regularly

Teeny tiny little torch! I didn't read the specs for this so was surprised when it came but actually it's really handy. My partner is a scout leader and this is actually great for him to keep on his uniform trousers for situations that require a torch. The light is REALLY bright, so bright if you put it behind your finger you can see the blood vessels (yes we did try it!!) Presentation case is very nice and good for keeping it all together, and it's pocket sized which is helpful.If you want a tiny little torch, maybe to keep in your bag or coat pocket for when you can't find your keys or other situations in the dark then this is the torch for you!
