can you take the cap off and put it on other cans?

Absolutely! As of today, a flexible tube top that I originally took off one of these cans has made its way onto 3 subsequently-purchased cans that came with the plastic smart-straw, which I've been purchasing here: https://www.amazon.com/WD-40-490224-Multi-Use-Product-Twin-Pack/dp/B01LZ1WS99. (I also mention the cap transplanting in my review of that product.) Fair savings given that the Flexible-straw version comes to $0.50/oz and a two-pack of the plastic straw versions come to $0.38.oz. I don't recall having much trouble taking the flex-straw top off originally, but it does NOT hold onto the cans to which it is transplanted as strongly as the originals. Note that this is not a problem when in actual use given that pressing the spray button will obviously hold it in place. That's the only downside, but it is minor.

I have found that smart straw product (not this one) is poorly designed and oil leaks all over when you invert the can. How is this product? No leaks

Have had no leaks from several cans used.

The flexibility tube is great!

Finally a tube that you can't loose. This new flexible tube makes it so much easier and more affective in putting the WD-40 right where you want instead of all over the place. Way to go and like I said this is a great design for a great product.

The flex straw is very handy

I bought a few of these while getting a gallon jug and a bunch of plastic refillable squirt bottles and a bunch of the standard metal cans with the red plastic straws. Almost immediately I ran into a use that required an almost vertical spray into my paper shredder slot to free up a gooey mess. It worked well. The next was to spray a bit into the half hidden spark plug hole in a balky push mower. (A neighbor has shown me that WD40 works well as a starting spray) The fact that the tube they call a straw is metal and longer is a help in the shop since I'll spray some WD on aluminum when machining it and the metal tube can be bent as needed and if something hits it it doesn't break and/or pop off. When using it on the metal lathe during a cutoff these long metal tubes are safer for my hands and don't waste much either as opposed to spraying a bunch and only a little actually gets into the cutoff groove. So I like these things.
