Works for older Vitamix 5200 + a trick to remove original
Replaced the bloated and cracked original retainer nut on our 64oz Vitamix 5200 pitcher. This one had the o-ring (or u-seal maybe) already installed (it's black, not red) which can be tough to tell if you don't know what you are looking at.If you already have medium-to-large slip-joint pliers (aka channel locks) and a medium crescent wrench, you can *easily* remove the original retainer without the accessory tool. Sit in a chair and hold the pitcher upside down between your legs so the handle is "clocked" away from you and touching your left leg near the knee (so it cannot rotate further, see?). Open the channel lock pliers enough for the jaws to span the retainer nut gap and insert in the gap facing straight down (handles pointed straight up in the air). Then use the crescent wrench on one of the channel lock jaws to turn the entire [channel lock + retainer] setup. Harder to explain, VERY easy to do if you have some mechanical know-how. I will try to add a photo later.
