Great story
This was a wonderful book for all ages. One you can give to your young reader and not worry about them reading it.

chet and bernie lite
I wasn't going to buy this book, because it's for children. Then I got an email from goodreads/Spencer Quinn touting it. I figured why not, I'm in withdrawal from Chet as it is. The main character, besides Bowzer, who is 8 months old, is Birdie, age 11. And herein lies the weakness. Bernie Little is marvelously adult, and marvelously human. The contrast between Chet's perfect, devoted dog-ness and Bernie's imperfect adult human-ess is one of the major and many charms of the Chet and Bernie series. Dogs are basically furry children. So to create some kind of dynamic in this book, the child has to act like a grown up. Personally, I prefer Bernie. But I'm old. This is probably a great kid's book.I was also hoping we might meet a different dog. Bowzer is essentially Chet, complete with his "amigo" s (wouldn't we use another term in Louisiana, maybe cher, or even amie?), but with a less interesting back story. In spite of the above observations, I gave this book 4 stars, first, because I am not it's target audience. and second, I read it in one sitting, laughed, cringed and more, because this author knows how to tell a story. Chet lite is way better than no Chet at all.

Woof! Ha! Ha!
A fun read! Not an award winner, but definitely worth the time. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Perfect for fans of mysteries and lovable dogs!
This Texas Bluebonnet nominee for 2016-2017 is a terrific "girl and her dog" mystery set in the bayous of Louisiana. Readers will love slobbery mutt Bowser and his ability to smell a lie on humans and to love his owner, Birdie. Both Bowser and Birdie are determined to solve the mystery of Grandma's stolen trophy Marlin and soon discover that the theft may lead them to a long lost treasure. Told from Bowser's point of view makes for very entertaining versions of what is happening with those odd humans and keeps this book moving all the way to its somewhat unexpected conclusion. And the best news is that Quinn quickly followed this book with another Bowser and Birdie mystery--Arf! Both are highly recommended for mystery/dog story fans from 4th grade and up.

GREAT mystery
GREAT mystery with theft, break-ins, night expeditions and SO much more. Some death, very suspenseful. And there's not just one mystery, but two! The reason that I give this book a four is because you never really solve the first mystery . They kinda just leave you wondering. And bowser keeps not understanding and zones out . But this book is amazing and kept me up till 12:30 in the morning. I finished This in a day.

After two chapters I ordered a copy for my young friend
I love Chet and Bernie books so I was excited to see what Spencer Quinn had to offer for kids. Even though I'm a grandma, I'm still a kid at heart and read my favorite books from my youth once a year. About two chapters into this book I realized that my young friend Jessi would love this book so I ordered the paperback edition for her. And I was right.(Aren't grandmas usually right?) She did really like the book. The great thing about Spencer Quinn's books are that he really DOES understand dogs. Their tongues are longer than their attention spans and that's what makes the book so interesting and fun. If you have a pre-teen or even a teenager, this is a great book. A combination of mystery and fun are entwined with the emotions of a young girl who misses her mother, who is working on an oil rig off the coast of Africa. Try it. You'll like it..

Lieber Spencer Quinn:schneller schreiben !
