A mechanical tool pencil
The Rotring 600: a classic mechanical pencil now made in Japan! Similar to the original, a pleasure to write or draw! Not shirt pocket friendly though! A quality writing tool that you will use for many years. Be careful not to drop it, as the nib is very fragile.

Beware of cheap substitutions
My previous review was turned down presumably because I named the seller. So this time Amazon, I will not name names and encourage you to check the seller rating.Beware when this Rotring 600 is on discount - what I actually got was a cheap, plastic propelling pencil which has nothing to do with Rotring at all apart from a sticker that had been stuck on it saying 'Rotring 600' - hilarious.Do what I did, return it immediately and complain..Amazon, think twice about refusing reviews - reviews are to help buyers make decisions. You can see other reviewers complaining about the same experience I had and your so-called 'policy' should not prevent us from compaining about a bad service from a seller and caution other buyers.

Don't drop it.
Yes, this is a nice mechanical pencil, but I've dropped it several times and there is no cap on the very vulnerable tube that guides the lead. I've managed to straighten it a few times, but, well... Hmmm. A bit heavy in the hand too, so I'm going to find another brand that works better for me. (Might even just get a pencil sharpener...)

Quality feel, nice balance and great to write with
Seen this on offer and sucummbed to the temptation! It is pricy but when it is on offer it is ideal.I like Rotring pens/pencils and I find that they are nice to write with. The only problem I have had with previous pencils is that the nib mechanisim seems to fail with me. Bit early for this one but I'm hoping the 600 works with no issues and lasts me a long time. The pencil is all metal and has a nice weight/feel to it with the weight more towards the nib. The gnarled surface at the nib end is just the right size when holding it. I bought the 0.5mm which I prefer to write with.At the other end it has a rotator selector for different types of lead; 2H, 4H, 2B, B, HB, F, H. I guess you select these depending on the size of lead you end up putting in it.I bought the green, it is quite dark which is great - could be describes as a forest green?I liked it so much I ended up buying a 600 pen to go with it.

Quality and reliability, just the beginning
I haven't tried all makes of mechanical pencils and having bought and used two Rotring models don't see a need to no matter how much the price and lacquered finish of well known manufacturers of writing implements might indicate quality. Rotring mechanical pencils are metal, comfortable in the fingers, balanced and totally reliable over years of use. The quality is obvious when using them not only for the solid mechanical working but their sleek appearance of subtle silvery grays, a touch of red and easy on the eye clip fasteners. Cheaper plastic common coloured pencils heavy at one end from a thick metal grip aren't worth having.

A few points about Rotring 600 followed by a comparison with Rotring 800
I love German Design aesthetic, German Engineering and Rotring pencils.I definitely recommend Rotring (Redring) 600 to everyone. After reading the reviews and watching Rotring design engineers videos; I chose Rotring 600 over Rotring 800 & 800+The pencil is so solidly built, it makes my hands feel powerful. It produces amazingly neat lines and I would even say it improves my handwriting. The pencil click is seamless, the pencil leads don't break, even with substantial pressure (an issue with 800 & 800+; one of my key reason to choose 600 over 800 & 800+: more in the comparison below)As fellow reviewers have pointed out; the Hexagonal barrel prevents the pencil from rolling off of surfaces easily. As you can judge by now, I am in love with Rotring 600...Comparison of Rotring 600 with Rotring 800 offered by a fellow reviewer on Amazon.com:In general, Rotring essentially offers the best drafting pencils and the Rotring 600 is simply superb. It pains me to have to leave a negative review for Rotring 800. It is simply a poorly designed product that is overpriced. Rotring touts the 800 as their cream of the crop mechanical pencil and it has a nifty twist mechanism, which makes the pencil pocket-friendly by removing the sharp point, which works; however, when you try to write with the pencil you will notice a play in the metal tip, which defeats the purpose of a mechanical drafting pencil: they are supposed to be precise. Having a loose tip defeats the whole purpose of precise writing. The pencil does look quite attractive, however; that is why it gets two stars. It is only good in the pocket not on the paper. For high-quality drafting pencil go for Rotring 600 or even Rotring Rapid Pro, which is also pocket-safe. If you are not worried about the sharp point then buy the legendary Rotring 600.
