Expansive world, fun combat and a great RPG
I don't usually write reviews for games, but this one is particularly good. The game's large world and innumerable side quests make exploring fun and rewarding, especially once you can take your dragon form. The quests are diverse, not your typical "kill the monster" boring side quest with lame rewards (a great feature in this game is you can pick one of several rewards for any quest, allowing you to cater to you character's style). Both the human and dragon combat are fun - the use of rolling and dodging make this more than the usual button-mashing combat style. The large, non-linear skill tree is very fun to develop, and leveling happens at the perfect pace. Item and treasure collection also happens at a great pace, and you are constantly finding new stuff that will make your character even stronger. I've enjoyed the storyline, and the game itself is filled with little easter-eggs and subtle humor that make playing fun.As others have said, this is a challenging game. You die a lot, and often have to go back to previous zones to level up before adventuring further. I find this very nice, however - the game is challenging but not impossible. You do have to play for a long time before you can take your dragon form, but it is worth it. The game is a bit buggy, but nothing fatal, and the graphics are average. If you're looking for a game to play for a long time, with great character development and world exploration, then this is for you. I reccomend this for gamers who have enjoyed Morrowind/Oblivion, Diablo 2, Sacred, and others in the Divinity series.

Don't overlook this game- sleeper of the year
After reading the 4 positive reviews I decided to take a chance buying this game and I'm glad I did. I've been playing it for more than a week now and it reminds me of all the great games of the past. This game has to be the "sleeper of the year". The graphics are excellent and the story line will keep you busy for hours. The scenery is in my opinion better than Risen. Combat varies from place to place because in some areas you may be fighting a level 25 character and in other places a level 10 character so you have to know when to run. There are plenty of monsters to kill and the story line will keep you coming back for more. As in the other role playing games there are puzzles to solve and you may need to access a helping website to figure them out. After you level up you have a choice of going in any direction whether it be magic or swordfighting skills so your character can be modified to whatever direction you wish to go. I've only been playing this game for a short time but I can't pull myself away from it because it will keep you coming back for more. I'm really surprised that more people haven't purchased this game because they are really missing a great experience. So if you are a role playing addict like me and loved The Witcher, Risen, DragonAge, Chernobyl and Gothic do yourself a favor and buy this game. You will not be disappointed. And as far as DRM or any other crapola there is no problem as far as I can see. It's been said that there is DRM but it hasn't affected me in any way and there doesn't seem to be any install limits like other games we know and hate. I have had absolutely no problems with a quad core Vista machine and 3 gigs of Ram and the game runs flawlessly. So enjoy. Just an update for you gamers. I'm still playing this game and I still love it. I usually play games for hours at a time and still haven't finished all the quests. Definitely on par with Oblivion and The Witcher and will probably be a candidate for game of the year. A word of advice, get yourself an undead helper to keep the bad guys busy because the bad guys focus on your helper first which gives you an opportunity to kill them. On the helping websites many complain that some of the bad guys are too strong. If you go it alone relying on your character only, the game may be too hard for yours if it doesn't have enough points.

Worst written game ever
I play a lot of PC games and have for many many years. I work for a software company. I played the first two Divinity games and loved them. The graphics and plot of this game seemed good and I was very excited to play this game when I got it. I however, have been unable to play the game because of so many issues causing the game to either not load, freeze, lag, or crash. After looking at the forums I see so many other people with the same issues. I emailed tech support and after a few basic questions, was told that they cannot help me. I have returned the game to never buy another game from Larian studios again.Buyer beware. Check the user forums for the game to see the possible issues and playability.

Divinity II
The game is an Action/RPG played from 3rd person perspective. The image zooms automatically when the camera angle is lowered. Character creation allows limited variety: Male/Female, about a half dozen different faces and hairstyles, some tatoos and scars. The graphics were fine. The voice acting was great with some nice touches of humor.Melee combat was not satisfying. There was no ability to block or parry. It was so fast that it was basically just a matter of pressing the mouse button as fast as possible. (I prefer a slower, back and forth sort of duel as in Mount and Blade or even Risen) Ranged combat was even more unrealistic. Just aim in the general direction of the enemy and click once to draw and fire. You have unlimited arrows and can fire almost as fast as you can click, sort of like having a Gatling bow!Special powers and skills were awkward to use. You could assign them to the number keys and then press the key to use - hard when you are using the WASD keys to move around. I wish they would have allowed you to use the scroll wheel on the mouse to select the one you wanted and then press it (middle mouse) to use. Basically you end up having to constantly pause the game to effectively use your skills and spells. That defeats the whole purpose of playing an action game. They could have made it a straight rpg (like Dragon Age Origins) so pausing would not break the flow of the game. There were way too many magic weapons and armor in the game. As a result, it didn't feel special when you found something. The quests were well done. There was a great sense of exploration to the game. It just kept getting bigger and bigger as you went along with new areas having an entirely different feel. I especially loved the winding paths cut into the sides of mountains. It reminded me of the old Carl Barks/Uncle Scrooge stories about adventures in the Andes. I wouldn't call it a sandbox game though as enemies don't respawn. When you finally get to turn into a dragon, it seems like a whole new game has been entered - almost like an aerial dogfight game. For most of the game I was debating on whether to give the game a four or a five rating but the ending spoiled it for me. When I finally got to what I assume was the end, the difficulty of the game ramped up so much that it became tedious, just constantly saving, getting killed, reloading, etc. Finally I made it through the dragon stage, then entered the arena stage, got through that but finally quit on the final (I guess) fight with 2 big bosses plus their helpers. I don't claim to be a great player but have finished games like Morrowind, Witcher, and Fallout 3 on the medium difficulty level. This was way harder than any of them. The skills and spells it turns out are not equally useful. Yes, you can pay to reassign your skill points but that pretty much destroys the sense of immersion in the game. It seems to me that you should be able to play any style of character, ranger, fighter, mage or thief, and still be able to ultimately "win" the game. I suppose if I had done every quest, found every key, etc. I would have had a stronger character at the end but to me it destroys the replay value if you do everything the first time around. To summarize, if you like rpg's you should get this game now that the price is lower. It has many nice features but ultimately for me it became more frustrating than fun.
