Proctor Silex 4 Slice Countertop Toaster Oven

I've been wanting a toaster oven for simple stuff, like warming up frozen rolls, broiling an open faced sandwich, etc. Nothing fancy. Not looking to roast a chicken, bake a cake, etc. Just something for when a microwave won't do (you need crispy) and you don't want to heat up the whole kitchen by firing up a big oven (especially during the summer in Florida). This little appliance does the trick. Heats up instantly, no pre-heating. Melts the cheese on an open faced sandwich in just a couple of minutes. Has a crumb tray for easy clean up. The controls are super basic. I mostly use the toaster timer, which makes a hilariously retro ticking sound (apparently it uses an old-fashioned mechanical timer), and just watch through the glass window to see when things are done, since cook time is usually just a couple of minutes for what I'm doing. No digital displays or controls. Really basic. Which also means really inexpensive. Controls weren't immediately intuitive, but by "immediate" I mean that it took me all of a minute or two to figure out how to make the toaster oven do what I wanted. Simple. I already have a full-size oven for serious baking, so I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars and take up a lot of counter space for a fancy appliance. This simple, small, inexpensive toaster oven is just what I needed -- basically a horizontal, enclosed toaster, just like I remember from the good 'ol days.

Great item. Basically a replacement for one I have had for a long time and loved. Just thought I’d get a new one so didn’t have to clean the old one. Old one and new one are so good. PS I gave it five stars but one didn’t light up.

Claims it toasts 4 slices, but only if they’re smaller than normal sized slices (ie, smaller than your typical store-bought sliced bread). However, it is small and compact exactly as stated, so works perfectly if you’re cooking just for yourself and are short on counter space.

It's good for the price. Kind of small from what we're used to.

Most reviews you will see on Amazon are probably first impressions, people buy a product and write a review after only using it for a short time. But I've been using this oven for almost two years. It's designed to turn itself off after the timer has run down to zero, but it doesn't always turn off. So, if you use it to fix breakfast and the timer runs to zero, and you leave the house, it can continue to heat all day long. This has happened a few times and I finally have decided to get rid of it.

I like this a lot. I’ve never had a toaster oven before and it’s very Handy makes very nice toast too. I think I’ll get a lot of use out of this.

The toaster is good, but it stopped working after 6 months. I complained to the company, I received the replacement in two weeks. I had to pay the postage.
