DVR or DeadVR!
I was looking for a replacement remote for my Magnavox MDR 513H/F7 HDD/DVR which is not manufactured any longer.A search on Amazon brought me Luck, I found a few similar ones but was unsure, so I read several reviews and found the one, I purchased. So, far this remote is working well and functioning the tasks of my original remote. Some of the buttons are in different places but they perform the actions. I was happy to find this remote at a reasonable price which allowed me to keep my machine. I was thinking of tossing it, if I couldn’t find a replacement, the DVR is almost useless without the remote control. Thanks for the remote and the reviewer on Amazon!

Glad it was just the remote!
When my original remote started acting up, I didn't think it could be the remote itself. But, I guess it didn't fair that well, when it dropped to the floor a few times. Still, I thought the whole remote would quit and not just a few of the buttons. I was worried that my DVR was slowly dying and I was going to have to fork out some cash for another one. And that didn't make me happy, because I really like mine. So, just to cover all of the bases, I decided to buy a new remote. Boy, was I glad I did. That's exactly what the problem was. I'm sure there must be a crack in a solder point on my old one, and that was causing just a couple of the buttons to not always work. You can maybe test yours to see if it's doing the same thing by lightly tapping it with your other hand, while pressing the buttons that don't work. that might make the solder point connect just long enough to get the button to work. It's not a sure test, but worth a try.I must say I'm pleased that the new remote works. I feel like I got a new DVR instead of a new remote. It works just like a new DVR. Actually, there wasn't ever anything wrong with the DVR, but I was thinking the worst. I'm glad that's the case, because I really like my Magnavox DVR. I think I'll have to find a new spot to keep the remote though, so it doesn't drop onto the floor so easily.

Lasted 18 months
After about 18 months this developed the same issue as a prior replacement. The buttons stop functioning. Oddly, if I gently jar the device (tap it against my knee) is will function for 1-10 minutes. I'm an engineer and can't sort out why there is a malfunction. The buttons function by capacitance. Is some sort of liquid film or bubble forming somewhere? I went back to the original remote device (which lasted about 4 years) and found a similar effect. I could consistently (used >50 times in past 2 months after not using for 3 years) get it to function briefly after a bump. This purchase was made in March 2017The device was replaced in Jan 2019That device has failed, same issue, same symptoms, after 2 years in Aug 2021.

Works flawlessly
This is just like the original equipment. Works flawlessly, and having it in hand gave me the confidence to open the old one and clean the contacts. I have since taken the batteries out of the new one and placed it on the shelf until the old one gives out for good. (I have had to open the old one and clean it once more, and it gets sluggish occasionally, so it is only a matter of time before I put the new one into service permanently.) It was a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

Exact replacement for original remote!
Delighted with this remote for my dvr purchased December 2013. So happy Magnavox still sells the original remotes for this discontinued dvr. Don't know how much more life is left in my dvr, but having a replacement remote gives me time and space to start looking for a newer dvr.Barely suffered missing my taped shows with the 1-day.shipping I chose. Now, I'm going to try YouTube's 'clean your remote' fix and see if I can keep a back-up remote on hand, since I don't plan to spend another $30.00 for a 2013 Dvr remote. All in all, I've been really pleased with the quality and performance of the Magnavox 537 HDD recorder, and find it so worth shelling out $30.00.
