Effective and safe for treatment of my dogs' tapeworms, best price!
Would that I could give this 10 stars! I was totally grossed out to discover that my dogs had developed tapeworms. I was even more dismayed to learn that I was looking at multiple vet trips for treatment. This is the same meds my vet prescribed, but at a fraction of the cost.A single dose kills all the worms in the dog's body right away. Within 24-hours, you won't see any more worms in the poop or around the dog's butt (gross, right?). The medicine works by interfering with the worm's ability to not be digested by the dog.The reason multiple treatments are often needed is because it's so easy for dogs to get reinfected. Make no mistake, dogs get tapeworms from eating infected fleas. Fleas get infected from eating the tapeworm segments filled with tapeworm eggs that come out in the dog's poop or crawl out of their butts (gross!). I was all in denial about having fleas (I think we had a very small infestation, and my dogs ate most of them, so it didn't seem like we had any). I'm using Home Defense pesticide inside and outside the house to control them in my yard (lots of my neighbors keep their dogs outside all the time, so I have to be vigilant about protecting my yard. Also, I take my dogs for runs in parks and the woods, and all they have to do is pick up and eat one infected flea and the process begins again. Moreover, once your dog has tapeworms, if there are any fleas in the environment, they're going to want to eat the eggs in the tapeworm segments that the dog passes, and if the dog then eats those fleas: reinfection. So picking up infected poop promptly and getting fleas under control is also important. Alas, I think the little buggers, the worm egg segments and the fleas, can live for a long time in the yard, so I like that this is a 12 pack, and I don't have to go back to the vet each month. I will probably, totally without the vet's advice, give this to my dogs for a couple of months (maybe in smaller doses later on) to make sure we eradicate these suckers from the environment. I doubt this is what a vet would tell me to do, but I'm doing it.My dogs are 55 and 60 pounds, so I just use the chart on the back of the box to figure out how much they need. The box says one pill for dogs 25-50 pounds and two pills for dogs 50-100 pounds. Since they're just over the 50 pound border, I split the difference and gave them 1.5 pills a piece (which, if my calculations are correct, ought to be enough medicine for 75 pounds). It worked. No more tapey worms. So for my dogs, these 12 pills are a 4-month supply for both dogs. Great deal! I did lots of research, and praziquantel is definitely the drug you want for tapeworms! Home Defense Max 1.1 Gal Rtu for environmental control of fleas (also cheap at Target in store). Fiproguard Plus Squeeze-On For Dogs 89-132 Pounds for flea control on the dog itself. The same ingredients as Frontline Plus. I use a single dose to treat both dogs (Their total weight is less than 132). I'm cheap, but it works.

A 12-hour wonder!
My dog is 12 years old, and I had never dealt with worms before. Taking her for a walk after work early this week, I saw small white wiggly parts in her business, and was horrified - I felt like a bad bad fur-momma. She had dealt with some fleas (again for the first time) the month before, but I thought it was all taken care of, never knew to be on the look out for these horrid creatures.Based on some great recommendations here on amazon, I decided to give this a try, as I would not be able to get her to the vet until the weekend. They arrived the next day, and I wrapped two pills up in some cheese (she weighs 65 pounds), and my picky eater scarfed them down. Now, be warned (and some have warned about this) - be prepared for them needing to do their business a bit more than normal, and it may be on the loose side (sorry!). My pup does tend to get an upset tummy easily, so this may not happen to everyone, but we did go for some extra walks, and she woke me to go out once overnight (she never does that normally).By the next morning, 12 hours after she took her dosage, everything was coming out clean - no wiggly worms, no dead worms, nothing! Two days later, and it is like it never happened. I will give her another dose in a month, and then keep the rest on hand for any future recurrences.Amazon definitely has the best price on this, and no emergency visit to the vet - I will just have her checked next time we are scheduled to be there next month. Many thanks to all who posted their experiences here - the advice coupled with these pills saved the day!

Effective, horrible taste.
Works well, but the taste is so strong my dogs won't even eat it in a hot dog. You might have to be creative to get your dog to eat it.

Not Just For Dogs Anymore!
These work, and they work well... and (psst) on cats, as well. And people, if you can stomach the horrible taste. ;) For cats, get the large dog size and cut them in quarters and give a quarter per grown cat. Halve the quarters for kittens in the ten to twelve week range. And always, when you buy dewormers, get a pill with both the pyrantel pamoate AND praziquantel in them. Of course, use on your own cats at your own risk, but, at least for me, who works with rescues and is known as both The Cat Whisperer and/or Crazy Cat Man (yes, they're replaced the crazy cat lady archetype since I've come along, and because of me, no less), I swear by the WormXPlus. It's just a cost effective thing: pharmas charge more and give you less when it comes to cats, when it's the same stuff. Just get you a pill popper or wrap them in cheese when you deworm your critters. Do always keep in mind--with these or with ANY dewormer--if your cats are experiencing a heavy enough infestation--and I mean HEAVY like you don't normally see if you half take care of your animals--dewormers can cause mild epileptic type episodes because of the die off, though this is most especially true if they have heartworms (because the worms disintegrate in their bloodstream). It's not the medicine, it's the die off. And it's not permanent. Also, keep in mind the praziquantel does kill heartworms, too. So, the combination is awesome, and this brand is effective.

so good. And it DOES beat the vet bills
This product seems to be working -- you can see worm segments being expelled in the dog's feces the following day. However, I had to use the toll-free number in the package to get accurate instructions on the dosing. The dosage explanation with the product is VERY unclear. It gives the weight and corresponding amount of tablets needed for the your dog's size. But it doesn't tell you HOW OFTEN to give these tablets! As it turns out, you only give the one dosage according to your dog's weight -- once per month. But it says nothing on the packaging about "monthly" doses. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to give these tablets every day until they were gone, or what. This makes the packaging and product somewhat misleading, which is why I can only give the product 3 stars. I will follow up a month later and see how it goes. So far, so good. And it DOES beat the vet bills!
